Prayer Life – Praying to Father Yahuah
Praying for Understanding – The Fear of Yahuah Elohaynu
Greetings to my brothers, sisters and family in the faith, who walk in the set-apart way and who love Father Yahuah and His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach. I pray this post finds you and your family continuing in the grace, mercy, peace and blessings of Yahuah. This week’s prayer blog is a very important one, one that all the other ones are centered around and I hope you dig into this one more than any of the others, for it is the true key to our relationship with Father Yahuah through His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach.
Introduction:
Throughout my many years in the church and body of believers, the one thing that I have seen a severe lack of is understanding, and the number one thing that shows this monumental deficit of understanding is the lack of the fear of Yahuah. There is a great misunderstanding of what the term “to fear Yahuah” actually means and this misunderstanding is growing at such an escalating rate because of the lack of the real fear of Father Yahuah. This teaching on praying for understanding – the fear of Yahuah, may be one of the hardest in the battle against the ruach of pride and ego that we must all overcome.
The misunderstanding of the fear of Yahuah comes when people define what this fear is actually supposed to mean. Somehow, the enemy has inserted the word reverence into the definition of fear, in most cases allowing it to be the definition of the term “the fear of Yahuah”, but is this what the scriptures actually teach us about the fear of Yahuah?
In this study we will look at the biblical Hebraic definitions and the worldly definitions of the words: understanding, fear, terrible, and reverence to get a better understanding of how this has actually led to the diminishing of the fear of Yahuah and replaced it with the ruach of anti-Mashiach.
Definitions:
I am a firm believer that the enemy cannot change the infallible word of Elohiym, but the enemy can change the definitions of the words used so that we don’t have a clear understanding of what the scriptures actually say and this is going on at an alarming rate today! Just to give you a small example, when I was growing up and we wanted to say something was great and looked really good like a car, we would say “man that car is bad!” We were using the word of the time to mean we liked something which was “bad”, so in essence we were performing the very thing the bible says in Yesha’yahu 5:20 and we can see how this is escalating in today’s society.
Now that little bit of revelation has been given, let’s get an understanding of these words so we can understand what it truly means to fear Yahuah:
The English word understanding comes from several Hebrew words and the ones we are going to focus on in this study are the ones that have to do with and are linked to the knowledge and wisdom of the things of Elohiym, found mainly in the Psalms and Proverbs. They are SHWs 995, 998, 7306, 7922 and 8394 which basically all mean to have insight, wisdom, knowledge, intelligence and understanding of a subject, primarily the knowledge of the set-apart ways of Father Yahuah found in the scriptures.
The definition of the English word understanding is: 1. the mental quality, act, or state of a person who understands; comprehension, knowledge, discernment, sympathetic awareness, etc. (Webster’s New World Dictionary, Second College Edition 1972)
The English word fear comes from several Hebrew words and we are going to focus on several for this study and they are SHWs 3372a, 3373, and 3374 which all come from the root word יָרֵא (yare’) SHW 3372 which has the following definitions and the number of times they are used: fear (188x), afraid (78x), terrible (23x), terrible thing (6x), dreadful (5x), with that word reverence only being used 3 times, fearful (2x) and terrible acts (1x) (The New Strong’s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible © 1990).
The definition of the English word fear is: Old English – sudden attack, ambush, snare, danger, peril: basic sense, “trap” – 1. a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension (Webster’s New World Dictionary, Second College Edition © 1972)
The English word for terrible also comes from several Hebrew words but the only one we’re going to look at has already been defined above and it is SHW 3372.
The last word we will look at is the one that causes the confusion when it comes to fearing Yahuah and that is the word reverence. As we already know one of the Hebrew words is SHW 3372 and it is only used twice to mean reverence with the other time it meaning reverend.
The only other Hebrew word that reverence comes from is SHW 7812, שָׁחָה (shachah) which is a root meaning to depress, i.e. prostrate (especially in homage to royalty or Elohiym): worship (99x), bow down (31x), obeisance (9x), reverence(5x), fall down (3x, themselves (2x), stoop and crouch (1x each) and simply mean to bow down, to prostrate oneself, to worship.
The definition of the English word reverence is: 1. a feeling or attitude of deep respect, love, and awe, as for something sacred; veneration.
Nowhere in the definitions of reverence is the word fear or anything similar to it found. Let that sink in, one word is used to define the other but not vise versa. Does this tell you something about the enemy we have to be on guard against?
I pray that from the actual biblical definitions of these words, you are starting to clearly see what it truly means to have understanding and the fear Yahuah.
Scriptures on the Fear of Yahuah:
With the preliminaries and definitions behind us, let’s take a look at a few key scriptures to get a better understanding about the fear of Yahuah:
Tehilliym (Psalms) 111:10 – “The fear of Yahuah is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments: His praise endureth for ever.
**The psalmist lets everyone know that the fear of Yahuah is the beginning of wisdom, all that do His commandments have understanding and will be able to praise Yahuah for eternity.
Mishlei (Proverbs) 1:7 – “The fear of Yahuah is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
**The author of the proverb says that the fear of Yahuah is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction which will lead them to an eternity of punishment from Yahuah.
Is eternal punishment from Yahuah something that you fear?
Mishlei (Proverbs) 9:10 – “The fear of Yahuah is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Set-apart is understanding.”
**The author repeats that the fear of Yahuah is the beginning of wisdom and that the knowledge of the Set-apart is understanding which leads to life. To be set-apart and separated from this world is to have understanding of the fear of Yahuah.
Scriptures on the Terrible Elohiym of Yashar’el:
The definitions and scriptures above should show that there is a clear and undeniable link that true wisdom, knowledge and understanding of Yahuah facilitates the fear of Yahuah. Incase this fact may still be trying to elude you through the deception of the enemy, let’s take a look at how Yahuah appears to Yashar’el:
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 10:16-17 & 20-21 – “Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. For Yahuah Elohaykem is Elohai of elohiym, and Adonai of adoniym, a great El, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: & 20. Thou shalt fear Yahuah Elohayka; Him shalt thou serve, and to Him shalt thou cleave, and swear by His name. He is thy praise, and he is thy Elohiym, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.”
** The children of Yashar’el are reminded of the terrible things they saw Yahuah do (the ten plagues, kill tens of thousands of Mitsriym, etc.) when He brought them out of Mitsrayim and they are reminded that Yahuah has no respect of persons and judges everyone the same, He will punish everyone the same if they do not love Him by having the understanding of guarding His commandments. As my daddy used to say, Elohiym was putting the fear of “God” in them!
Do you have the fear of Elohiym in you?
Yashar’el’s enemies are subdued under them, not because Yahuah Elyon is so awesome, or they have reverence for Him, but because He is a terrible Elohiym and the enemies of Yashar’el are terrified and afraid of Yahuah and the mighty terrible works He does.
Tehilliym (Psalms) 47:2-3 – “For Yahuah Elyon is terrible; He is a great King over all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.”
**The psalmist lets everyone know Yahuah Most High is terrible and that He alone is the one who subdues peoples and nations under His chosen people, not because of reverence, but because of the fear of His might and power.
Yoel (Joel) 2:11 & 30-31 –“And Yahuah shall utter His voice before His army: for His camp is very great: for He is strong that executeth His word: for the day of Yahuah is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? & 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of Yahuah come.”
Some point to the translations saying that this means awesome but there is nothing awesome about the events described in these verses, it a very terrible thing that all of these things are going to happen to those who disobey Yahuah and should cause all to fear Yahuah. I hope that this is becoming clearer as we go along and now we are going to hear what the Son of Elohiym says about the fear of Yahuah.
Do you truly fear Father Yahuah?
Mashiach Yahusha and the Fear of Yahuah:
There is One who truly knows what the fear of Father Yahuah truly is and that is His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach. He Himself had the fear of Yahuah upon Him:
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 11:2 –“And the Ruach of Yahuah shall rest upon Him, the Ruach Chokmah (of wisdom) and Biynay (Ruach of understanding), the Ruach Etsah (of counsel) and Gevurah (Ruach of might), the Ruach Da’ath (of knowledge) and of the Yir’ah (fear of) Yahuah;”
**From the prophecy of Yesha’yahu, we can see that the Ruach Yir’ah (Ruach of Fear), one of the seven Ruachoth of Yahuah, was upon Him and it was the reason Mashiach Yahusha obeyed everything Father Yahuah commanded Him to do, placing His fear of Father Yahuah above the fear of the cross and having to bear the sins of all the people who have ever lived:
Luqas (Luke) 22:42-44 – “Saying, Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly: and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”
**Kneeling down praying before Father Yahuah, Mashiach asked to have the cup of the wrath of Elohiym against all sinners (Tehilliym 11:6 & 75:8, Yesha’yahu 51:17 & 51:22 and Chazon 14:10) removed from Him. Even with all of the punishment Mashiach knew He was going to have to endure for the salvation and redemption of Yashar’el and those of us who have joined ourselves to Yashar’el through the eternal covenant, His fear of Father Yahuah for disobeying Father Yahuah, receiving that punishment, would have been far worse than the cross, causing Him to do Father Yahuah’s will and not His own will. This is a very profound statement in this passage that cannot be understood with reverence and awe, but can only be understood by the true fear of Father Yahuah that Mashiach had!
Yahusha Mashiach gives us another verse that is critical to the understanding of the fear of Yahuah:
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 10:28 – “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
This fear is SGW 5399 which means to to fear (62x), be afraid (23x), be afraid of (5x) and reverence (1x). It is from SGW 5401 which comes from the Greek root φόβος (phobos) that our English word phobia comes from. From this definition we can can get the understanding that Mashiach wasn’t talking about giving reverence to Father Yahuah but He was stating that this should actually be a serious phobia we have, to fear Father Yahuah Who can destroy both our body and soul in hell and the lake of fire that is appointed for those that do not truly have the understanding of the fear Yahuah Elohiym.
Do you have a phobia of hell and the lake of fire?
Praying for Understanding of the Fear of Yahuah:
Throughout this series, we have looked at examples of prayers that provide a simple outline for prayers pertaining to different things we may need to pray for in our sojourn here. With those guides, you should now have a general understanding of simple prayers and the scriptures that support them.
This is not one of those prayers that an outline can be provided for, it is something that you will have to do on your own, a personal journey with Ruach Yahuah Elohiym as your guide:
Philippiym (Philippians) 2:12-15 – “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is Elohiym which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of Elohiym, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”
**Just as the apostle Pa’al said, I am encouraging you and praying that you do the same thing he commanded, because I nor anyone else will be standing with you on that day and you will have to work our your own salvation with fear and trembling, and that you:
2nd Timotheus (Timothy) 2:15 – “Study to shew thyself approved unto Elohiym, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Conclusion:
The key to a successful prayer life is not only knowing how and what to pray for but it is about being quiet, searching the scriptures and listening for the answers Yahuah sends to after you pray to guide you along the way and to give you fear and understanding of what His personal will is for your life.
The preacher, Shalomah gives us one of the most important understandings we can get and that is:
Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes) 12:13 – “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohiym, and guard His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
**Let us therefore preach our testimony here by the way we walk in the understanding of obedience and the fear Father Yahuah.
Thank you for following this series on Prayer Life – Praying to Father Yahuah and I pray that something has been shared and revealed that helps you in your sojourn here.
I pray that you have a blessed and restful Shabbath tomorrow and that Yahuah continues to lead, guide and direct your sojourn in His way.
Shalom,
Minister Morrow
