37 – Parashat Balaq (בָּלָ֖ק) – “Balaq” – December 7th thru December 13th

Bemidbar (Numbers) 22:2 – 25:9

Bemidbar (Numbers) 22:2

  • 2. And Balaq the son of Zippor saw את all that Yashar’el had done to the Emoriym.
  • 3. And Mo’av was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Mo’av was distressed because of the children of Yashar’el.
  • 4. And Mo’av said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up את the grass of the field. And Balaq the son of Zippor was king of the Mo’aviym at that time.
  • 5. He sent messengers therefore unto Bil’am the son of Be’or to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Mitsrayim: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:
  • 6. Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he את whom thou blessest is blessed, and he את whom thou cursest is cursed.
  • 7. And the elders of Mo’av and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Bil’am, and spake unto him the words of Balaq.
  • 8. And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Yahuah shall speak unto me: and the princes of Mo’av abode with Bil’am.
  • 9. And Elohiym came unto Bil’am, and said, What men are these with thee?
  • 10. And Bil’am said unto Elohiym, Balaq the son of Zippor, king of Mo’av, hath sent unto me, saying,
  • 11. Behold, there is a people come out of Mitsrayim, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
  • 12. And Elohiym said unto Bil’am, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.
  • 13. And Bil’am rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balaq, Get you into your land: for Yahuah refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
  • 14. And the princes of Mo’av rose up, and they went unto Balaq, and said, Bil’am refuseth to come with us.
  • 15. And Balaq sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
  • 16. And they came to Bil’am, and said to him, Thus saith Balaq the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
  • 17. For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me את this people.
  • 18. And Bil’am answered and said unto the servants of Balaq, If Balaq would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Yahuah Elohai, to do less or more.
  • 19. Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what Yahuah will say unto me more.
  • 20. And Elohiym came unto Bil’am at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
  • 21. And Bil’am rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Mo’av.
  • 22. And Elohiym’s anger was kindled because he went: and the Angel of Yahuah stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
  • 23. And the ass saw the Angel of Yahuah standing in the way, and His sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Bil’am smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
  • 24. But the Angel of Yahuah stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
  • 25. And when the ass saw the Angel of Yahuah, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Bil’am’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
  • 26. And the Angel of Yahuah went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
  • 27. And when the ass saw the Angel of Yahuah, she fell down under Bil’am: and Bil’am’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
  • 28. And Yahuah opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Bil’am, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
  • 29. And Bil’am said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
  • 30. And the ass said unto Bil’am, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.
  • 31. Then Yahuah opened the eyes of Bil’am, and he saw the Angel of Yahuah standing in the way, and His sword drawn in His hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
  • 32. And the Angel of Yahuah said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before Me:
  • 33. And the ass saw Me, and turned from Me these three times: unless she had turned from Me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
  • 34. And Bil’am said unto the Angel of Yahuah, I have sinned; for I knew not that Thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease Thee, I will get me back again.
  • 35. And the Angel of Yahuah said unto Bil’am, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Bil’am went with the princes of Balaq.
  • 36. And when Balaq heard that Bil’am was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Mo’av, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
  • 37. And Balaq said unto Bil’am, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
  • 38. And Bil’am said unto Balaq, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that Elohiym putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
  • 39. And Bil’am went with Balaq, and they came unto Qiryat Chusoth.
  • 40. And Balaq offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Bil’am, and to the princes that were with him.
  • 41. And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balaq took Bil’am, and brought him up into the high places of Ba’al, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.

Bemidbar (Numbers) 23

  1. And Bil’am said unto Balaq, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.
  2. And Balaq did as Bil’am had spoken; and Balaq and Bil’am offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
  3. And Bil’am said unto Balaq, Stand by thy ascending smoke offering, and I will go: peradventure Yahuah will come to meet me: and whatsoever He sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.
  4. And Elohiym met Bil’am: and he said unto Him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.
  5. And Yahuah put a word in Bil’am’s mouth, and said, Return unto Balaq, and thus thou shalt speak.
  6. And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his ascending smoke sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Mo’av.
  7. And he took up his parable, and said, Balaq the king of Mo’av hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Ya’aqov, and come, defy Yashar’el.
  8. How shall I curse, whom Elohiym hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom Yahuah hath not defied?
  9. For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
  10. Who can count the dust of Ya’aqov, and the number of the fourth part of Yashar’el? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
  11. And Balaq said unto Bil’am, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
  12. And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahuah hath put in my mouth?
  13. And Balaq said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.
  14. And he brought him into the field of Zophiym, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
  15. And he said unto Balaq, Stand here by thy ascending smoke offering, while I meet Yahuah yonder.
  16. And Yahuah met Bil’am, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balaq, and say thus.
  17.  And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his ascending smoke offering, and the princes of Mo’av with him. And Balaq said unto him, What hath Yahuah spoken?
  18. And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balaq, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:
  19. El is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
  20. Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and He hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
  21. He hath not beheld iniquity in Ya’aqov, neither hath He seen perverseness in Yashar’el: Yahuah Elohayu is with him, and the shout of a King is among them.
  22. El brought them out of Mitsrayim; He hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.
  23. Surely there is no enchantment against Ya’aqov, neither is there any divination against Yashar’el: according to this time it shall be said of Ya’aqov and of Yashar’el, What hath El wrought!
  24. Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
  25. And Balaq said unto Bil’am, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
  26. But Bil’am answered and said unto Balaq, Told not I thee, saying, All that Yahuah speaketh, that I must do?
  27. And Balaq said unto Bil’am, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please Elohiym that thou mayest curse me them from thence.
  28. And Balaq brought Bil’am unto the top of Pe’or, that looketh toward Yeshiymon.
  29. And Bil’am said unto Balaq, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
  30. And Balaq did as Bil’am had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

Bemidbar (Numbers) 24

  1. And when Bil’am saw that it pleased Yahuah to bless Yashar’el, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
  2. And Bil’am lifted up his eyes, and he saw Yashar’el abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the Ruach Elohiym came upon him.
  3. And he took up his parable, and said, Bil’am the son of Be’or hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
  4. He hath said, which heard the words of El, which saw the vision of El Shaddai (the Almighty), falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
  5. How goodly are thy tents, O Ya’aqov, and thy tabernacles, O Yashar’el!
  6. As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lign aloes which Yahuah hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
  7. He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
  8. El brought him forth out of Mitsrayim; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
  9. He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
  10. And Balaq’s anger was kindled against Bil’am, and he smote his hands together: and Balaq said unto Bil’am, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
  11. Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, Yahuah hath kept thee back from honour.
  12. And Bil’am said unto Balaq, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,
  13. If Balaq would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of Yahuah, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what Yahuah saith, that will I speak?
  14. And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
  15. And he took up his parable, and said, Bil’am the son of Be’or hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
  16. He hath said, which heard the words of El, and knew the knowledge of El Elyon (the most High), which saw the vision of El Shaddai, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
  17. I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Ya’aqov, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Yashar’el, and shall smite the corners of Mo’av, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
  18. And Edom shall be a possession, Se’iyr also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Yashar’el shall do valiantly.
  19. Out of Ya’aqov shall come He that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
  20. And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
  21. And he looked on the Qeyniyiym, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.
  22. Nevertheless the Qayiniy shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.
  23. And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when El doeth this!
  24. And ships shall come from the coast of Kittiym, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
  25. And Bil’am rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balaq also went his way.

Bemidbar (Numbers) 25:1-9

  1. And Yashar’el abode in Shittiym, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Mo’av.
  2. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their elohiym: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their elohiym.
  3. And Yashar’el joined himself unto Ba’al Pe’or: and the anger of Yahuah was kindled against Yashar’el.
  4. And Yahuah said unto Mosheh, Take אֶת all the heads of the people, and hang them up before Yahuah against the sun, that the fierce anger of Yahuah may be turned away from Yashar’el.
  5. And Mosheh said unto the judges of Yashar’el, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Ba’al Pe’or.
  6. And, behold, one of the children of Yashar’el came and brought unto his brethren a Midyianiyth woman in the sight of Mosheh, and in the sight of all the assembly of the children of Yashar’el, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the assembly.
  7. And when Piynechas, the son of El’azar, the son of Aharon the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the assembly, and took a javelin in his hand;
  8. And he went after the man of Yashar’el into the tent, and thrust both of them through, את the man of Yashar’el, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Yashar’el.
  9. And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

Haftarah Balaq (בָּלָ֖ק) – “Balaq”

Miykah (Micah) 5:1 6:16

Miykah (Micah) 5

  1. Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: He hath laid siege against us: they shall smite את the judge of Yashar’el with a rod upon the cheek.
  2. But thou, Beyt Lechem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Yahudah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me that is to be Ruler in Yashar’el; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
  3. Therefore will He give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of His brethren shall return unto the children of Yashar’el.
  4. And He shall stand and feed in the strength of Yahuah, in the majesty of the name of Yahuah Elohayu; and they shall abide: for now shall He be great unto the ends of the earth.
  5. And this One shall be the peace, when the Ashshur shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
  6. And they shall waste the land of Ashshur with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall He deliver us from the Ashshur, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
  7. And the remnant of Ya’aqov shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from Yahuah, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
  8. And the remnant of Ya’aqov shall be among the other nations in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
  9. Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
  10. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Yahuah, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
  11. And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
  12. And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
  13. Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
  14. And I will pluck up thy Asherah poles out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
  15. And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.

Miykah (Micah) 6

  1. Hear ye now את what Yahuah saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
  2. Hear ye, O mountains, Yahuah’s controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for Yahuah hath a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Yashar’el.
  3. O My people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against Me.
  4. For I brought thee up out of the land of Mitsrayim, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Mosheh, Aharon, and Miryam.
  5. O My people, remember now what Balaq king of Mo’av consulted, and what Bil’am the son of Be’or answered him from Shittiym unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of Yahuah.
  6. Wherewith shall I come before Yahuah, and bow myself before the high Elohiym? shall I come before Him with ascending smoke offerings, with calves of a year old?
  7. Will Yahuah be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
  8. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Yahuah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy Elohiym?
  9. Yahuah’s voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see Thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
  10. Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?
  11. Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?
  12. For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
  13. Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.
  14. Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.
  15. Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.
  16. For the statutes of Omriy are kept, and all the works of the house of Ach’av, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of My people.

Brit Ha’dasha Balaq (בָּלָ֖ק) – “Balaq”

Romaiym (Romans) 11:1-36 & 2nd Kepha (Peter) 2:1-28

Romaiym (Romans) 11

  1. I say then, Hath Elohiym cast away His people? Elohiym forbid. For I also am an Yashar’e’liy, of the seed of Avraham, of the tribe of Binyamiyn.
  2. Elohiym hath not cast away His people which He foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Eliyahu? how he maketh intercession to Elohiym against Yashar’el saying,
  3. Yahuah, they have killed Thy prophets, and digged down Thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
  4. But what saith the answer of Elohiym unto him? I have reserved to Myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Ba’al.
  5. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
  6. And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
  7. What then? Yashar’el hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
  8. (According as it is written, Elohiym hath given them the ruach of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
  9. And Da’vid saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
  10. Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.
  11. I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? Elohiym forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the other nations, for to provoke them to jealousy.
  12. Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the other nations; how much more their fulness?
  13. For I speak to you other nations, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the other nations, I magnify mine office:
  14. If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
  15. For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
  16. For if the firstfruit be set-apart, the lump is also set-apart: and if the root be set-apart, so are the branches.
  17. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
  18. Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
  19. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.
  20. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
  21. For if Elohiym spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
  22. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of Elohiym: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in His goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
  23. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for Elohiym is able to graft them in again.
  24. For if thou were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
  25. For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Yashar’el, until the fulness of the other nations be come in.
  26. And so all Yashar’el shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away wickedness from Ya’aqov:
  27. For this is My covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
  28. As concerning the besorah, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father’s sakes.
  29. For the gifts and calling of Elohiym are without repentance.
  30. For as ye in times past have not believed Elohiym, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
  31. Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
  32. For Elohiym hath concluded them all in unbelief, that He might have mercy upon all.
  33. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of Elohiym! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!
  34. For who hath known the mind of Yahuah? or who hath been His counsellor?
  35. Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
  36. For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amein.

2nd Kepha (Peter) 2

  1. But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying Yahuah that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
  2. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the Way of Truth shall be evil spoken of.
  3. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
  4. For if Elohiym spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
  5. And spared not the old world, but saved Noach the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the wicked;
  6. And turning the cities of Sodom and Amorah (Gomorrha) into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live in wickedness;
  7. And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the Torahless:
  8. (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their Torahless deeds;)
  9. Yahuah knoweth how to deliver the His chaciyd (saints) out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
  10. But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
  11. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before Yahuah.
  12. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
  13. And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
  14. Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
  15. Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Bil’am the son of Be’or, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
  16. But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
  17. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
  18. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
  19. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
