Main Themes & Commandments

The Promise Secured in the Land

Avraham secures a possession in the land of Kena’an through the purchase of the cave of Machpelah, demonstrating faith in Yahuah’s promise even in death.
Bere’shiyth 23:19-20 –“And after this, Avraham buried אֶת Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Makpelah before Mamre: the same is Chevron in the land of Kena’an. And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Avraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Cheth. ”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 11:13 –
“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth.”
**Those who walk with Yahuah
trust in His promises beyond this life. Avraham’s purchase shows that faith acts in obedience, even when the fullness of the promise is yet to come.

Seeking Yahuah’s Will in All Decisions

Avraham’s servant (El’azar) seeks Yahuah in prayer to find a wife for Yitschaq, showing dependence on Yahuah for direction.
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 24:12 & 14 – “And he said O Yahuah Elohai of my adoniy Avraham, I pray Thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my adoniy Avraham. & 14. And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Yitschaq; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my adoniy.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 3:6 – “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
**The servants of Yahuah seek Him first in all matters. Direction, clarity, and success come through prayer and trusting in His guidance.

Willing Obedience to the Call

Rivqah responds immediately to the call, leaving her household to join Yitschaq and become part of the covenant lineage.
Bere’shiyth 24:58 – “And they called Rivqah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 12:1 –“Now Yahuah had said unto Avram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 4:20 – “And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.”
**Those who are called by Yahuah respond in obedience without delay. True faith is shown through action and willingness to leave behind what is familiar to walk in His purpose.

Covenant Continuity Through the Chosen Seed

Yahuah establishes His covenant through Yitschaq, setting apart the promised lineage from among Avraham’s sons.
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 25:5““And Avraham gave all that he had unto Yitschaq.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 25:11 – “And it came to pass after the death of Avraham, that Elohiym blessed his son אֶת Yitschaq; and Yitschaq dwelt by the well Be’er La’Chai Ro’iy.”
Romiym (Romans) 9:7 – “Neither, because they are the seed of Avraham, are they all children: but, In Yitschaq shall thy seed be called.”
**Yahuah’s promises are fulfilled through His chosen order. Not all are part of the covenant, but those who walk in His promise through obedience are established in it.

Yahuah is Faithful to All His Promises

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 25:16 –These are the sons of Yishma’el, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 17:20 –“And as for Yishma’el, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.”
**Yahuah is faithful to every word He speaks. Whether within the covenant line or beyond it, His promises stand sure and are fulfilled in their appointed time.

Living Water and Eternal Life

Mashiach Yahusha reveals the deeper fulfillment of the covenant through the offering of living water that leads to eternal life.
Yochanon (John) 4:13-14 – “Yahusha answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 2:13 – “For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.”
Chazon (Revelation) 21:6 – “And He said unto me, It is done. I am Aleph and Tav, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.”
**Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is the source of living water. The covenant is fulfilled in Him, and those who receive Him will have everlasting life through the provision of Yahuah.

Hebrew Link Words

Yahusha Ha’Mashiach in the Torah Portion

Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is revealed throughout Parashat Chayei Sarah as the One who guards the covenant, directs the path of His people, calls forth obedience, and brings forth life through the promised seed, revealing the faithfulness of Yahuah to fulfill His Word across generations.

Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is the One who Secures the Promise in the Land. He is seen in Avraham’s purchase of the cave of Machpelah, showing that the inheritance is made sure through faith, pointing to the greater inheritance prepared for those who trust in Him.

He is the Sender and the Guide. As Avraham sends his servant, Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is the One who directs the journey, orders the steps, and answers the prayers, revealing that it is He who leads His people into the will of Father Yahuah.

He is the Bridegroom who Receives His Bride. In Yitschaq receiving Rivqah, Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is revealed as the Bridegroom who receives those who willingly respond to His call, just as the assembly is called to come out and follow Him in covenant relationship as outlined throughout Yahuah’s word.

He is the One who Calls for Immediate Obedience. As Rivqah says, “I will go,” Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is revealed as the One who calls His people to leave all and follow Him without delay, walking by faith and not by sight.

He is the Promised Seed through whom the Covenant Continues. Through Yitschaq, the covenant line is established, pointing to Yahusha Ha’Mashiach as the ultimate Seed in whom all the promises of Yahuah are fulfilled.

He is the Source of Living Water. In speaking to the woman at the well, Yahusha Ha’Mashiach reveals Himself as the One who gives living water, fulfilling the deeper meaning of the covenant—eternal life through Him.

He is the Faithful One who Fulfills Every Promise. From Sarah to Avraham, from Yitschaq to the generations that follow, Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is revealed as the One who ensures that not one word of Yahuah falls to the ground, but all is brought to completion in Him.

Reflection & Self-Study Questions

  1. Avraham purchased a burial place in the land that was promised but not yet fully possessed. How does this challenge your understanding of walking in faith when the promise is not yet seen?
  2. The servant sought Yahuah in prayer before making a decision. Do you truly seek Yahuah’s direction in all things, or do you lean on your own understanding and the understanding of man?
  3. The servant recognized Yahuah’s hand immediately and worshipped. Do you acknowledge Yahuah in the small details of your life, giving Him glory for His guidance?
  4. Rivqah responded immediately, saying, “I will go.” What is Yahuah calling you to leave behind, and are you responding with that same willingness and obedience?
  5. Yitschaq was about 40 years old when he took Rivqah as his wife (Bere’shiyth 25:20), while Rivqah was much younger. What does this age difference teach about maturity, responsibility, and readiness for covenant marriage?
  6. After Sarah’s death, Yitschaq was comforted through his marriage to Rivqah. How does this reflect the role of companionship and support within marriage?
  7. Avraham sent away the sons of his concubines to preserve the covenant line through Yitschaq. What does this teach about order, inheritance, and the structure of family according to Yahuah’s purposes?
  8. The marriage of Yitschaq and Rivqah was built on Yahuah’s direction rather than personal pursuit. How does seeking Yahuah first change the foundation of a marriage?
  9. Considering the cultural context of the time, how should we discern what is descriptive versus what is prescriptive regarding age gaps and family involvement in marriage?
  10. The generations of Yishma’el show that Yahuah keeps His promises to all. How does this deepen your trust in His faithfulness in your own life?
