Main Themes & Commandments
Obedience to Yahuah Leads to a More Personal Relationship
Yahuah commanded Ya’aqov to leave and he went out as he was commanded. Yahuah guards Ya’aqov’s soul because of his obedience to all of Yahuah’s commandments:
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 28:10 – “And Ya’aqov went out from Be’er Sheva, and went toward Haran.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 121:4-5 – “Behold, He that guards Yashar’el shall neither slumber nor sleep. Yahuah is thy guard: Yahuah is thy shade upon thy right side.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 28:12-13 & 15 – “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of Elohiym ascending and descending on it. And, behold, Yahuah stood above it, and said, I am Yahuah Elohai of Avraham thy father, and the Elohai of Yitschaq: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 15. And, behold, I am with thee, and will guard thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done אֶת that which I have spoken to thee of.”
Yochanon (John) 1:45, 47-48 & 51 – “Philip findeth Nathan’el, and saith unto him, We have found Him, of whom Mosheh in the Law, and the prophets, did write, Yahusha of Natsareth, the son of Yoceph. 47-48. Yahusha saw Nathan’el coming to Him, and saith of him, Behold an Yashar’e’liy indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathan’el saith unto Him, Whence knowest thou me? Yahusha answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 51. And He saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of Elohiym ascending and descending upon the Son of A’dam.”
**Obedience to Yahuah allow us to have a more personal relationship with Yahusha Ha’Mashiach which in turn leads us to having a deeper and more personal relationship with Father Yahuah. When Yahuah tells us to go out, to come in or to move in some other way, we are to obedient even if we are uncomfortable with it. Putting our complete trust and faith in Yahuah to guide us is one of the main ways we grow our relationship with Him.
Trickery to Others brings Trickery and Deceit to Us
Because of Ya’aqov’s trickery and deceit to con his brother Esau and his father Yitschaq, the same is returned to him.
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 29:23 & 25 – “And it came to pass in the evening, that he took אֶת Le’ah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. 25. And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Le’ah: and he said to Lavan, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 6:30-31- “Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.”
Galatiym (Galatians) 6:7-8 – “Be not deceived; Elohiym is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Ruach shall of the Ruach reap life everlasting.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 31:7 – “And your father hath deceived me, and changed אֶת my wages ten times; but Elohiym suffered him not to hurt me.”
**When we try to do things our way instead of waiting on Yahuah’s timing and perfect plan, we are acting in disobedience and will have to reap what we sow. Just as Ya’aqov sowed trickery, that same trickery came back to him in his dealing with his wives, children and Lavan.

Reflection & Self-Study Questions
- Yahuah identifies Himself to Ya’aqov as Yahuah Elohai of Avraham and the Elohai of Yitschaq. Do you identify Yahuah by the title of the Elohiym of Avraham, the Elohiym of Yitschaq, and the Elohiym of Ya’aqov when you go before His throne of grace, mercy and love when you pray?
- The love story of Ya’aqov and Rachel is one the most talked about in the scriptures. Did you know that Ya’aqov was 77 or 78 years old when he first met Rachel? Did you know that most scholars place Rachel’s age at 14 to 16 years old at the time when they met and Ya’aqov said he would work for Lavan seven years?
- What do you think of the age difference in Ya’aqov and Rachel? What do you think of the fact that they were first cousins?
- How would these “taboos” be looked upon in today’s society? How would they be looked upon by the “church” of today?
- What are your thoughts on how Lavan tricked Ya’aqov to make him serve him another seven years?
- What do you think of how the Le’ah and Rachel competed against each other for Ya’aqov’s attention?
- Why did Rachel’s use of the “magical” mandrakes backfire and Yahuah opened up Le’ah’s womb again?
- Why do you think Yahuah Elohiym caused it to be that Ya’aqov ended up with blessings above Lavan’s?
- Why did Rachel steal the teraphiym of Lavan?
- Do you believe that there are angels of Elohiym that are around you and doing work for Yahuah?
