Main Themes & Commandments

Fruitfulness Comes Through Faithful Obedience to Yahuah

As Ya’aqov approached death, he reflected upon a lifetime of walking with Elohiym. He testified that Elohiym had shepherded him all his life and had redeemed him from all evil. Ya’aqov then blessed Ephrayim and Menashsheh, praying that they would multiply and continue in the covenant promises. True fruitfulness in scripture is not measured by wealth, possessions, or physical increase, but by a life that continually remains faithful to Yahuah and produces righteous fruit. Yahuah desires His people to bear fruit through obedience, faithfulness, righteousness, and covenant loyalty. The blessings pronounced upon Yoceph and his sons point forward to the greater calling of every believer to be fruitful in Ruach Yahuah Elohaynu for the Kingdom of Elohiym.

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 48:15-16 – “And he blessed אֶת Yoceph, and said, Elohiym, before whom my fathers Avraham and Yitschaq did walk, the Elohiym which fed me all my life long unto this day, The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless אֶת the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Avraham and Yitschaq; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 49:22 – “Yoceph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall:”

Yochanon (John) 15:8 – “Herein is My Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be My talmidiym.”

**Yahuah desires His people to be fruitful, not merely in earthly prosperity, but in righteousness, obedience, and the fruit of the His Ruach. Like Yoceph, believers are called to remain faithful through trials so that Yahuah may produce lasting fruit that glorifies Him and blesses others.

To Love Yahuah Is to Walk in His Commandments

Before his death, Ya’aqov gathered his sons and spoke prophetic blessings and warnings concerning their future. His words revealed that actions have consequences and that the character of each son would affect future generations. Likewise, Da’vid’s final charge to Shalomah in the Haftarah emphasized the importance of keeping Yahuah’s commandments. Scripture consistently teaches that love for Yahuah is demonstrated through faithful obedience to all of His commandments. Covenant blessings are connected to walking in His ways, while rebellion brings correction. Those who truly love Yahuah desire to guard His Torah and walk according to His instructions.

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 49:28 – “All these are the twelve tribes of Yashar’el: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.”

1st Melekiym (Kings) 2:2-3 – “I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; And guard אֶת the charge of Yahuah Elohayka, to walk in His ways, to guard His statutes, and His commandments, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, that thou mayest prosper אֵ֚ת in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:”

Devariym (Deuteronomy) 10:12-13 – “And now, Yashar’el, what doth Yahuah Elohayka require of thee, but to fear Yahuah Elohayka, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve Yahuah Elohayka with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To guard the commandments of Yahuah, and His statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?”

1st Yochanon (1 John) 5:3 – “For this is the love of Elohiym, that we guard His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.”

**Love for Yahuah is not merely expressed through words, emotions, or religious activity. Scripture defines love for Elohiym as faithful obedience to all of His commandments. Those who love Him seek to walk in His ways and leave behind a testimony of faithfulness for future generations, just as Ya’aqov and Da’vid instructed their descendants.

Humility and Servanthood Reflect the Character of Mashiach

In the Brit Ha’dasha reading, Yahusha humbled Himself and washed the feet of His talmidiym. Though He was Master and Teacher, He chose the position of a servant. This example parallels the humility displayed throughout Yoceph’s life. Although exalted to great authority in Mitsrayim, Yoceph remained dependent upon Elohiym and used his position to serve others rather than exalt himself. Yahuah often entrusts responsibility and influence to those who walk humbly before Him. Greatness in His Kingdom is measured by service, not status.

Yochanon (John) 13:13-15 – “Ye call Me Master and Adonai: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Rabbi and Yahuah, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 50:19-20 – “And Yoceph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of Elohiym? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but Elohiym meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

Miykah (Micah) 6:8 – “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Yahuah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy Elohiym?”

Mattithyahu (Matthew) 23:11 – “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”

Philippiym (Philippians) 2:5-8 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Mashiach Yahusha: Who, being in the form of Elohiym, thought it not robbery to be equal with Elohiym: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

**Yahuah calls His people to walk in humility and service. The example of Yoceph and the example of Yahusha both teach that true greatness comes through obedience, humility, and serving others. When believers humble themselves before Yahuah, He is able to use them to accomplish His purposes and bear much fruit for His Kingdom.

Faithful Men Leave a Legacy of Covenant Faithfulness

Parashat Vayechi Ya’aqov records the final words of both Ya’aqov and Yoceph, while the Haftarah records the final instructions of Da’vid. None of these men focused on earthly achievements as they approached death. Instead, they directed future generations toward the promises, commandments, and guarding covenant with Yahuah. Their concern was that their descendants would continue walking with Elohiym after they were gone. Every believer is called to leave behind a legacy of faithfulness that encourages others to fear Yahuah, obey His Torah, and trust in His promises.

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 50:24-25 – “And Yoceph said unto his brethren, I die: and Elohiym will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which He sware to Avraham, to Yitschaq, and to Ya’aqov. And Yoceph took an oath of אֶת the children of Yashar’el, saying, Elohiym will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up אֶת my bones from hence.”

1st Melekiym (Kings) 2:4 – “That Yahuah may continue אֶת His word which He spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said He) a man on the throne of Yashar’el.”

Tehilliym (Psalm) 78:5-7 – “For He established a testimony in Ya’aqov, and appointed a Torah in Yasha’el, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in Elohiym, and not forget the works of El, but guard His commandments:”

Ivriym (Hebrews) 11:22 – “By faith Yoceph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Yashar’el; and gave commandment concerning his bones.”

The greatest inheritance we can leave to future generations is not wealth or possessions but a testimony of faithfulness to Yahuah. Ya’aqov, Yoceph, Da’vid, and ultimately Yahusha all point believers toward trusting Yahuah’s promises, walking in obedience, and bearing fruit that remains for generations to come.
