Daily Readings

2ndday (Monday) – Shemoth (Exodus) 31:1–18 Yahuah calls Betsal’el by name and fills him with Ruach Elohiym, giving him wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skill to accomplish the work of the sanctuary; Yahuah appoints Aholiy’av with him and gives wisdom unto others who will make all that He commanded concerning the tent of meeting, the Ark, the vessels, the garments, the anointing oil, and the incense; Yahuah commands the children of Yashar’el to guard אֶת His Shabbaths as a sign between Him and them throughout their generations, because He is Yahuah Who sanctifies them; The Shabbath is set apart unto Yahuah, and those who profane it by doing work are cut off from among their people; Yahuah establishes the Shabbath as a perpetual covenant and reminds Yashar’el that He made the heavens and earth in six days and rested on the seventh; Yahuah gives Mosheh the two tables of testimony written with the finger of Elohiym.
Yechezq’el (Ezekiel) 36:22–38 – Yahuah declares that He will sanctify His great name among the nations and gather Yashar’el from among the nations back into their own land; He will cleanse them from their uncleanness and idols, give them a new heart and a new ruach, and put His Ruach within them; He will cause them to walk in His statutes and keep His judgments, restoring them as His people and dwelling among them; The cleansing, restoration, and obedience promised by Yahuah reveal His purpose to sanctify His people and His name among the nations.

3rdday (Tuesday) – Shemoth (Exodus) 32:1–35 The people see that Mosheh delays coming down from Mount Siynai and demand that Aharon make elohiym to go before them; Aharon gathers their gold and fashions a molten calf, and the people worship it and declare that it brought them out of Mitsrayim; Yahuah sees that the people have corrupted themselves and turned aside from the way He commanded; Yahuah declares His wrath against them, but Mosheh intercedes by reminding Him of His covenant with Avraham, Yitschaq, and Yashar’el; Yahuah turns away from the destruction He had declared, and Mosheh descends with the two tables of testimony; When Mosheh sees the calf and the people dancing, his anger waxes hot and he breaks אֶת the tables beneath the mount; Mosheh destroys אֶת the calf, confronts Aharon, and calls for those who are on Yahuah’s side to come unto him; The sons of Leviy gather unto Mosheh and execute Yahuah’s judgment upon the people, with about three thousand men falling that day; Mosheh returns unto Yahuah and intercedes for the people, but Yahuah declares that whoever has sinned against Him will be blotted out of His book and that He will visit their sin upon them.

4thday (Wednesday) – Shemoth (Exodus) 33:1–23Yahuah commands Mosheh and the people to depart toward the land promised unto Avraham, Yitschaq, and Ya’aqov, sending an Angel before them to drive out the nations; Because of their stiffneckedness, Yahuah declares that He will not go up in their midst lest He consume them in the way, and the people mourn; Mosheh takes אֶת the tent of meeting outside the camp, where those seeking Yahuah go to meet Him; Yahuah speaks with Mosheh face to face as a man speaks with his friend, and Mosheh pleads for Yahuah’s presence to remain with him and His people; Yahuah promises that His presence will go with Mosheh and give him rest, and Mosheh declares that they must not go forward without Him; Mosheh asks to know Yahuah’s way and to see His glory, and Yahuah promises to make His goodness pass before him and He will proclaim the name of Yahuah before him; Yahuah then proclaims that He will be gracious to whom he will be gracious and show mercy to whom He will show mercy; Yahuah declares that no man can see His face and live, so He places Mosheh in the cleft of the rock, covers him with His hand and allows him to see His back parts as His glory passes by.

5thday (Thursday) – Shemoth (Exodus) 34:1–17Yahuah commands Mosheh to hew two new tables of stone like the first, and Mosheh ascends Mount Siynai with them; Yahuah descends in the cloud, and stands with him there and proclaimed the name Yahuah; Yahuah passed before him proclaiming Yahuah, Yahuah El, as merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin while not clearing the guilty; Mosheh bows and worships, asking Yahuah to go among His people, pardon their iniquity, and take them as His inheritance; Yahuah cuts a covenant with Yashar’el and promises to do terrible things among them; He commands them not to make covenants with the inhabitants of the land, but to destroy their altars, images, and groves, and to worship no other elohiym; Yahuah warns that association with the nations and their elohiym will become a snare, leading Yashar’el into idolatry and away from Him.
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:33–37 Yahuah declares that He will cut a renewed covenant with the house of Yashar’el and the house of Yahudah, putting His Torah within them and writing it upon their hearts; He will be their Elohiym, they will be His people, and He will forgive their iniquity and remember their sin no more; Yahuah establishes the permanence of His covenant with Yashar’el by pointing to the ordinances of the heavens and the foundations of the earth.

6thday (Friday) – Shemoth (Exodus) 34:18–35Yahuah commands Yashar’el to guard the Feast of Matstsah and to observe the appointed times of Qatsiyr and Aciyph; He commands the firstborn to be redeemed, the seventh day to be a day of rest, and the firstfruits to be brought unto the house of Yahuah; Yahuah commands that the blood of His sacrifice not be offered with leaven and that the sacrifice of Pesach not remain until morning; Mosheh remains with Yahuah forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water while Yahuah writes upon the tables אֶת the words of the covenant; Mosheh descends from Mount Siynai carrying the two tables of testimony, not knowing that the skin of his face shines because Yahuah spoke with him; Aharon and the children of Yashar’el fear to come near Mosheh, but he calls them unto himself and gives them all that Yahuah commanded; Mosheh places a veil over his face when speaking unto the people, but removes אֶת the veil when he goes before Yahuah.
1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 3:1–18Sha’ul explains that the renewed covenant ministry is written not with ink or merely upon tables of stone, but upon the hearts by the Ruach of the living Elohiym; He contrasts the glory associated with the tables of stone and the veil upon Mosheh with the greater glory of the ministry of the Ruach and righteousness; The veil is removed in Mashiach when a person turns to Yahuah, and those who behold His glory with an open face are changed into the same image from glory to glory by RuachYahuah.
Ivriym (Hebrews) 8:6–13Yahusha is presented as the Mediator of a better covenant established upon better promises; Yahuah’s renewed covenant places His Torah in the minds and hearts of His people, making them His people and Him their Elohiym; He promises mercy and forgiveness, remembering their sins and iniquities no more; The renewed covenant is connected directly to Yahuah’s promise through Yirmeyahu and reveals the progression from the covenant broken by Yashar’el to the covenant written within the hearts of His people.

Main Themes & Commandments — Parsha Tetzaveh

Yahuah Commands His People to Guard His Shabbaths

Ki Tisa emphasizes that the Shabbath is not merely a day of rest but a set apart sign between Yahuah and the children of Yashar’el. Yahuah commands His people to guard אֶת His Shabbaths throughout their generations because the Shabbath identifies them as a people sanctified by Him. The command is given immediately after instructions concerning the set apart service of the tent of meeting, showing that even the work of serving Yahuah does not override His command concerning the seventh day.
The Shabbath is established as a perpetual covenant and is rooted in creation itself, because Yahuah made heaven and earth in six days and rested on the seventh. The Haftarah connects this outward covenant faithfulness with the inward work of Yahuah, who promises to put His Torah within His people and cause them to walk in His statutes. The Brit Ha’Dasha likewise teaches that the renewed covenant does not discard Yahuah’s Torah, but places it within the heart.

Shemoth (Exodus) 31:13“Speak thou also unto the children of Yashar’el, saying, Truly My Shabbaths ye shall guard: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am Yahuah Meqoddishkem (that doth sanctify you).”

Shemoth (Exodus) 31:16-17“Wherefore the children of Yashar’el shall guard the Shabbath, to observe the Shabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Yashar’el for ever: for in six days Yahuah made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed.”

Yechezq’el (Ezekiel) 36:26-27“A new heart also will I give you, and a new ruach will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put My Ruach within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them.”

Ivriym (Hebrews) 8:10“For this is the covenant that I will cut with the house of Yashar’el after those days, saith Yahuah; I will put my Torah into their mind, and write it in their hearts: and I will be to them an Elohiym, and they shall be to Me a people.”

**Yahuah commands His people to guard אֶת His Shabbaths as a perpetual covenant and sign, allowing His Ruach to work within them so that His Torah is not merely known outwardly but written upon the heart and lived in obedience.

Yahuah Commands His People to Worship Him Alone and Reject Idolatry

Ki Tisa reveals the seriousness of turning away from Yahuah after He had delivered His people from Mitsrayim. While Mosheh was upon Mount Siynai receiving the testimony from Elohiym, the people made a molten calf, worshipped it, sacrificed unto it, and attributed their deliverance to the work of their own hands. Their sin demonstrated how quickly the people could turn aside from the commandments of Yahuah when they looked to something visible in place of Him.
After the judgment concerning the golden calf, Yahuah again commands Yashar’el not to enter into covenant with the inhabitants of the land or participate in their worship. Their altars, images, and groves were to be destroyed, because association with their elohiym would become a snare. Yahuah identifies Himself as Qanna, declaring that He alone is to be worshipped and that His people must not make molten elohiym.

Shemoth (Exodus) 32:7-8“And Yahuah said unto Mosheh, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Mitsrayim, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be your elohiym, O Yashar’el, which have brought thee up out of the land of Mitsrayim.”

Shemoth (Exodus) 34:12-14“Take heed to thyself, lest thou cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: For thou shalt worship no other elohiym: for Yahuah Qanna (is Jealous) is My name, He is a jealous El.”

Shemoth (Exodus) 34:16-17“And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their elohiym, and make thy sons go a whoring after their elohiym. Thou shalt make thee no molten elohiym.”

1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 10:14“Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”

1st Yochanon (John) 5:21“Little children, guard yourselves from idols. Amen.”

**Yahuah commands His people to worship Him alone, destroy and reject every form of idolatry, and avoid relationships and covenants that would turn their hearts toward other elohiym.

Yahuah Commands His People to Keep His Covenant and Walk in His Ways

After the sin of the golden calf, Yahuah does not abandon His covenant purposes for Yashar’el. He commands Mosheh to prepare new tables of stone and again writes the words of the covenant. Yahuah proclaims His own character as merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, while also declaring that He will not clear the guilty. Mosheh responds by bowing and worshipping and asking Yahuah to go among His people and pardon their iniquity.
The renewed tables demonstrate that Yahuah’s covenant words remain important even after the people’s transgression. The Haftarah looks forward to the time when Yahuah will cleanse His people, give them a new heart and a new ruach, and cause them to walk in His statutes. Yirmeyahu declares that Yahuah will write His Torah upon their hearts, while Ivriym identifies Yahusha as the Mediator of this renewed covenant. The Brit Ha’Dasha therefore connects the covenant given through Mosheh with the greater work of Yahuah through Mashiach, in which His Torah is written within His people.

Shemoth (Exodus) 34:5-7“And Yahuah descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahuah. And Yahuah passed by before him, and proclaimed, Yahuah, Yahuah El, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”

Shemoth (Exodus) 34:9-10“And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Master, let my Master, I pray Thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Thine inheritance. And He said, Behold, I cut a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of Yahuah: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:33-34“But this shall be the covenant that I will cut with the house of Yashar’el; After those days, saith Yahuah, I will put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Elohiym, and they shall be My people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know Yahuah: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Yahuah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Yechezq’el (Ezekiel) 36:27-28“And I will put My Ruach within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be My people, and I will be your Elohiym.”

Ivriym (Hebrews) 8:6“But now hath He obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”

Ivriym (Hebrews) 8:10“For this is the covenant that I will cut with the house of Yashar’el after those days, saith Yahuah; I will put my Torah into their mind, and write it in their hearts: and I will be to them an Elohiym, and they shall be to Me a people.”

**Yahuah commands His people to remain in His covenant, receive His mercy with humility, and walk in His statutes and judgments as He writes His Torah within them through His Ruach.

Hebrew Link Words

Ki Tisa (  ṯiś·śā) (כִּי תִשָּׂא) — “When Thou Takest” Strong’s Hebrew Words 3588 [e] and 5375 [e]
The Hebrew phrase כִּי תִשָּׂא (Ki Tisa) comes from כִּי (ki), Strong’s 3588, meaning when, because, for, that, and נָשָׂא (nasa), Strong’s 5375, meaning to lift, bear, carry, take, forgive, or take away. In Shemoth 30:12, the phrase introduces Yahuah’s command concerning the numbering of the children of Yashar’el: When thou takest אֶת the sum of the children of Yashar’el.
The word Tisa therefore carries the idea of taking, lifting, or bearing, and in the context of this portion it introduces the taking of a census and the ransom given for each soul. The portion then continues through instructions concerning the laver, anointing oil, incense, the craftsmen appointed to build the tabernacle, the Shabbath, the sin of the golden calf, Mosheh’s intercession, the renewal of the covenant, and the glory of Yahuah revealed to Mosheh.
Shemoth (Exodus) 30:12“When Thou Takest אֶת the sum of the children of Yashar’el after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto Yahuah, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest them.”
The title Ki Tisa therefore introduces a portion that moves from the taking and numbering of Yashar’el, to ransom, cleansing, consecration, covenant breaking, intercession, forgiveness, and the renewed revelation of Yahuah’s glory.
**Are you allowing Yahuah to take account of your life, cleanse you from what is unclean, and bring you back into obedience when you have gone astray?

Kopher (kō·p̄er) (כֹּ֧פֶר) — “A Ransom Strong’s Hebrew Word 3724 [e]
The Hebrew word כֹּפֶר (Kopher) “A Ransom” comes from the root כָּפַר (kaphar), carrying the idea of covering, making atonement, or providing a ransom. In Ki Tisa, every man numbered among Yashar’el from twenty years old and upward was commanded to give half a shekel as a ransom for his soul unto Yahuah. The rich were not to give more, and the poor were not to give less, showing that every soul stood equally in need of ransom before Yahuah.
Shemoth (Exodus) 30:15-16“The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give אֶת an offering unto Yahuah, to make an atonement for your souls. And thou shalt take אֶת the silver atonement of the children of Yashar’el, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the assembly; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Yashar’el before Yahuah, to make an atonement for your souls.”
This ransom points toward the greater work of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach, Who gave Himself as the ransom for many. The half-shekel could not itself provide the eternal redemption of a soul, but it established the principle that a ransom was required for the life of the people before Yahuah.
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 20:28“Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
**Have you considered the value of the ransom that Yahusha Ha’Mashiach gave for your soul, and are you living as one who has been redeemed by Him?

Ha’Derek (had·de·reḵ) (הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙) — “The Way” Strong’s Hebrew Word 1870 [e]
The Hebrew word הַדֶּרֶךְ (Ha’Derek) “The Way” comes from דֶּרֶךְ (derek), Strong’s 1870, meaning way, road, journey, path, or manner of life. While the exact phrase Ha’Derek is not the title of Ki Tisa, the concept of the way is central to the portion. Yahuah tells Mosheh that the people have quickly turned aside out of the way which He commanded them when they made the golden calf.
Shemoth (Exodus) 32:8“They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be your elohiym, O Yashar’el, which have brought thee up out of the land of Mitsrayim.”
After the sin of the golden calf, Mosheh asks Yahuah to show him His way so that he may know Him and continue to lead the people according to His will.
Shemoth (Exodus) 33:13“Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, shew me now Thy way, that I may know Thee, that I may find grace in Thy sight: and consider that this nation is Thy people.”
The Brit Ha’Dasha reveals the greater fulfillment of this truth in Yahusha Ha’Mashiach, Who declares that He Himself is the Way. The way is therefore not merely a path of human effort, but is found in following Yahusha and coming unto the Father through Him.
Yochanon (John) 14:6“Yahusha saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”
**Have you turned aside from the way Yahuah has commanded, or are you seeking to know Him by walking in the Way through Yahusha Ha’Mashiach?

Reflection & Self-Study Questions

  1. Yahuah commands that every man who is numbered among the children of Yashar’el give a half shekel as an offering unto Yahuah, with the same amount required from both the rich and the poor.
What does this teach you about how Yahuah views the value of each person before Him?
  2. Yahuah commands Aharon and his sons to wash their hands and feet before they minister before Him.
What does this washing teach you about approaching Yahuah and serving Him?
  3. Yahuah commands that the anointing oil and incense be set apart and not reproduced for common use.
What does this teach you about the difference between what Yahuah declares set apart and what man considers ordinary?
  4. Yahuah fills Betsal’el with Ruach Elohiym, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and workmanship so that he can accomplish the work Yahuah commanded.
Do you recognize that skills, abilities, wisdom, and creativity can be gifts (talents) given by Yahuah for His purposes that we are to multiply and bear fruit with?
  5. Yahuah repeatedly commands Yashar’el to guard the Shabbath, calling it a sign between Himself and His people throughout their generations.
How seriously do you take Yahuah’s command concerning the Shabbaths (weekly feast and the other feast), and what does your observance reveal about whom you recognize as your Elohiym?
  6. While Mosheh was upon Mount Siynai receiving the testimony from Yahuah, Yashar’el quickly turned aside and made a golden calf.
Why do you think people are so easily tempted to replace waiting upon Yahuah with something they can see, make, or control themselves?
Are you waiting patiently for Yahuah’s commands or are you rushing to do what is in your heart?
  7. Aharon knew that the people were doing evil, yet he participated in making the golden calf and then built an altar before it.
What does Aharon’s failure teach you about the danger of following the desires of people rather than standing firmly upon the commands of Yahuah?
How can we avoid this pitfall in our ministry for Yahuah?
  8. Mosheh became angry when he saw the golden calf and broke the tables of the testimony beneath the mount.
Do you think Mosheh’s anger was justified?
What does this event teach you about the seriousness of breaking covenant with Yahuah?
  9. Mosheh interceded for Yashar’el after their great sin and even asked Yahuah to forgive them or blot him out of His book.
What does Mosheh’s willingness to stand between Yahuah and the people teach you about the role of an intercessor, and how does this point you toward Yahusha Ha’Mashiach?
  10. Yahuah told Mosheh, I know thee by name. Yahusha likewise says that He knows His sheep and calls His own sheep by name and will confess our name before Father Yahuah.
What does it mean to you that Yahuah does not merely know His people as a multitude, but knows them personally?
  11. Mosheh asked Yahuah that His presence would go with him and the people, saying that without Yahuah’s presence they should not go forward.
What would it look like in your own life to refuse to move forward unless Yahuah’s presence is with you?
  12. Mosheh asked Yahuah, shew me Thy glory, and Yahuah allowed Mosheh to experience His glory while declaring His name and His character.
What does this passage teach you about the relationship between knowing the name of Yahuah and knowing His character?
  13. In Shemoth 34, Yahuah descended, stood with Mosheh, and proclaimed the name of Yahuah.
How do you understand the significance of Yahuah proclaiming the name of Yahuah, and how does this language cause you to examine the identity and role of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach?
  14. Yahuah proclaimed Himself as merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, while also declaring that He will not clear the guilty.
What does this reveal about the balance between the mercy and the judgment of Yahuah?
  15. Yahuah warned Yashar’el not to make covenants with the inhabitants of the land or worship their elohiym.
Why do you think Yahuah repeatedly warned His people against mixing His worship with the worship and practices of other nations?
How has this infected the “churches” of today?
  16. Yahuah told Yashar’el to destroy the altars, images, and groves belonging to the nations and commanded them to make no molten elohiym.
What modern things can become substitutes for Yahuah in a person’s life even when they are not literally statues or golden calves?
Do you regularly examine the priorities, activities and responsibilities in your life to ensure they are not becoming a snare for your soul to separate you from Father Yahuah?
  17. Yahuah promised to cleanse His people, give them a new heart and a new ruach, and cause them to walk in His statutes.
How does this promise in the Haftarah help you understand what Yahuah desires to accomplish within His people?
Do you examine your heart so you know what is in your heart jus like Yahuah examines your heart and He truly knows what’s in it?
  18. Yirmeyahu declares that Yahuah will put His Torah into the inward parts of His people and write it in their hearts.
What is the difference between merely knowing the commandments of Yahuah externally and having His Torah written within your heart?
How can we become doers of the commandments and not just readers and hearers?
  19. Ivriym (Hebrews) declares that Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is the Mediator of the better renewed covenant, while Ki Tisa shows Mosheh interceding for a sinful people.
How does Mosheh’s role as an intercessor help you understand the greater mediatorial work of Mashiach Yahusha and the roles of the ruach leaders of the called out assembly today?
  20. Mosheh’s face shone after speaking with Yahuah, while 2nd Qorintiym says that believers are changed into the same image as they behold the glory of Yahuah.
What does this teach you about how spending time in the presence of Yahuah should affect the way you live and the way people see you?
  21. Yahuah tells Mosheh that He knows him by name, while Yahusha says that He knows His sheep by name.
Do you personally seek to know Yahusha Ha’Mashiach and to be known as one of His sheep, hearing His voice and following Him?
  22. After the sin of the golden calf, Yashar’el had to confront the consequences of turning away from Yahuah, yet Yahuah still showed mercy and renewed the covenant then just like He continues to offer the renewed covenant today.
What does Ki Tisa teach you about repentance, judgment, mercy, restoration, and the faithfulness of Yahuah?
Are you patiently waiting for Yahuah or are you placing your faith in the idol of self reliance?
  23. Ki Tisa presents a people who repeatedly needed to choose whether they would follow Yahuah or turn aside after what they could see in the moment.
What are the things in your own life that compete for your trust, obedience, attention, or worship? Are you willing to remove anything that comes between you and Yahuah?
