Tehilliym (Psalms) 52

The boast of the wicked over the righteous is vain, for Elohiym cares for His people.

Introduction:

Tehilliym 52 is a psalm that was written by Da’vid when Doeg the Edomite came and told Sha’ul, and said unto him, Da’vid is come to the house of Ahimelech. Doeg was a mighty man that was under king Sha’ul and he caused the massacre of innocent people. He was a man that loved to do evil simply because he enjoyed evil and the psalm is a rebuke and promise of retribution by Elohiym spoken by Da’vid.

Tehilliym 52 (KJV-YS):
Verses 1-4: The Boasting of Evil Doers

1. Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of Elohiym endureth continually. 2. The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. 3.Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. 4. Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.”

Insights: Da’vid begins the psalm by asking why this man boast in mischief and loves evil more that good.

Cross References Verses 1-4:

1st Shemu’el (Samuel) 21:7 – “Now a certain man of the servants of Sha’ul was there that day, detained before Yahuah; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Sha’ul.”
2
nd Timotheus (Timothy) 3:2 – “For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, not set-apart,”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 50:19 – “Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.”
Miykah (Micah) 3:2 –
“Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;”
Yochanon (John) 8:44 –
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
Ya’aqov (James) 3:6 – “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that fit defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”
1st Shemu’el (Samuel) 22:18 – “And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.”

Summary: The tongue of the evil will always boasts itself in the evil that it does. It is always devising mischiefs, loves evil more than righteousness and is altogether deceitful.

Verses 5-7: The Reward of the Wicked

“5. Elohiym shall likewise destroy thee for ever, He shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. 6. The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: 7. Lo, this is the man that made not Elohiym his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

Insights: Elohiym will reward the wicked just as He rewards the righteous.

Cross References Verses 5-7:

Chazon (Revelation) 21:8 – “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Summary: In the end, the wicked will be destroyed and they shall be removed out of the land of the living. They trusted in other wicked men and their wealth to save them but the righteous shall see their destruction.

Verses 8-9: Trusting in Elohiym

“8. But I am like a green olive tree in the house of Elohiym: I trust in the mercy of Elohiym for ever and ever. 9. I will praise Thee for ever, because Thou hast done it: and I will wait on Thy name; for it is good before Thy saints.”

Insights: Da’vid contrasts those who live righteously with the wickedness of those like Doeg.

“Yahuah is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Yahuah.”
Eph’siym (Ephesians) 3:20-21 –
“Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the called out assembly (church) by Mashiach Yahusha throughout all ages, world without end. Amein.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 73:28 –
“But it is good for me to draw near to Elohiym: I have put my trust in the Adonai Yahuah, that I may declare all Thy works.”

Summary: Da’vid ends the psalm with saying that he is like a green olive tree in the house of Elohiym and that he will always trust in the mercy of Elohiym forever, contrasting his trust in Elohiym with Doeg’s trust in his strength and riches.

Introduction:

Tehilliym 53 (KJV-YS):
Verses 1-5: The Unbelieving Fool

“To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of Da’vid. 1.The fool hath said in his heart, There is no Elohiym. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. 2. Elohiym looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek Elohiym. 3. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up My people as they eat bread: they have not called upon Elohiym. 5. There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for Elohiym hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because Elohiym hath despised them.”

Insights: Da’vid tells of the futility of the wicked and how Elohiym despises them.

Conclusion:

Tehilliym 53 is a psalm that describes the folly of atheism and the depravity of humanity, contrasting it with Elohiym’s judgment and eventual salvation for the righteous. The psalm begins by highlighting the foolishness of those who deny Elohiym’s existence, leading them to corrupt and evil actions. Elohiym observes this, finding no one who truly seeks Him or does good. The psalm then depicts Elohiym’s judgment on the wicked, scattering their bones and bringing them shame. It concludes with a plea for Elohiym’s salvation and restoration for Israel

Tehilliym (Psalms) 54

A psalm of assured deliverance because of divine aid.

Introduction:

Tehilliym 54 is a prayer of David, likely written while he was fleeing from king Sha’ul, who was trying to kill him. The psalm focuses on Da’vid’s plea for Elohiym’s help and vindication against his enemies, specifically the Ziphites who betrayed him to Sha’ul. It highlights Da’vid’s dependence on Elohiym’s name, strength, and faithfulness in the face of betrayal and persecution.

Tehilliym 54 (KJV-YS):
Verses 1-3: A Cry to Elohiym

“1. To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of Da’vid, when the Ziphims came and said to Sha’ul, Doth not Da’vid hide himself with us? 1. Save me, O Elohiym, by Thy name, and judge me by Thy strength. 2. Hear my prayer, O Elohiym; give ear to the words of my mouth. 3. For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set Elohiym before them. Selah.”

Insights: Da’vid calls on Elohiym to save him from his enemies who seek not only his life but they also seek after his soul.
