Tehilliym (Psalms) 61
The prayer of a banished ruler turns to confident praise that Elohiym will spare his life and line.
To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of Da’vid.
Introduction:
Psalm 61 is a prayer written by king Da’vid during a time of great distress and exile, possibly when fleeing his son Avshalom, where he cries out to Elohiym as a powerful refuge. The psalm moves from a desperate plea for Elohiym to provide a towering rock of safety to a confident declaration of Elohiym’s past faithfulness and a pledge to praise Elohiym daily by performing his vows. It includes a prayer for the prolonged life of the king, foreshadowing the eternal reign of Mashiach, and concludes with Da’vid’s commitment to sing Elohiym’s praises forever.
Tehilliym 61 (KJV-YS):
Verse 1: Calling to Elohiym

2nd Shemu’el (Samuel) 15:14 – “And Da’vid said unto all his servants that were with him at Yerushalayim, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Avshalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.”

Reflection: Just as Da’vid does hear, we are to cry out and pray to Elohiym when we are in trouble.
Verses 2-3: The Rock of Salvation
Insights: No matter where he is, Da’vid says that he will cry out to Elohiym because He alone is his Rock, shelter and strong tower of salvation.
“2. From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. 3. For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”

Tehilliym (Psalms) 18:2-3 – “Yahuah is my Rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my Elohiym, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon Yahuah, Who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 32:1-2 – “Behold, a King shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. And a Man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.”
1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 10:4 –“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Mashiach (Christ).”
Reflection: Mashiach Yahusha is our Rock in times of trouble and that Rock is our solid foundation to stand for Yahuah no matter what the world does to us.
v-3: “For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 62:6-7 – “He only is my Rock and my salvation: He is my defence; I shall not be moved. In Elohiym is my salvation and my glory: the Rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in Elohiym.”

Reflection: Da’vid knows that Yahuah alone is his shelter and his strong tower.
Verses 4-5: The Tabernacle of Elohiym
Insights: Da’vid says that he will abide in the Tabernacle of Yahuah forever and will find shelter under His wings because Elohiym has heard his vows and given him the fear of Yahuah.
“4. I will abide in Thy Tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of Thy wings. Selah. 5. For Thou, O Elohiym, hast heard my vows: Thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear Thy name.”

Chazon (Revelation) 3:12 – “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My Elohiym, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of My Elohiym, and the name of the city of My Elohiym, which is new Yerushalayim, which cometh down out of heaven from My Elohiym: and I will write upon him My new name.”

Reflection: Da’vid understood that the true Tabernacle of Elohiym is Mashiach Yahusha and under His wings we find protection.
v-5: “For Thou, O Elohiym, hast heard my vows: Thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear Thy name.”

Reflection: The fear of Yahuah is the beginning of knowledge and Da’vid understood this. It is why he upheld the vows he made before Yahuah and kept them.
Verses 6-7: Eternal Reign of the King
Insights: Da’vid switches now from himself and Yahusha Ha’Mashiach and now speaks directly of Mashiach.
“6. Thou wilt prolong the King’s life: and His years as many generations. 7. He shall abide before Elohiym for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve Him.”

Verse 8: Praising Yahuah Forever
Insights: Da’vid declares that he will praise the name of Yahuah forever in order to uphold the vows he has made.

v-8
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 23:21-22 – “When thou shalt vow a vow unto Yahuah Elohaykem, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for Yahuah Elohaykem will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee. But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.”

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of Adonai Yahusha, giving thanks to Elohiym and the Father by Him.”
Chazon (Revelation) 15:3-4 – “And they sing the song of Mosheh the servant of Elohiym, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are Thy works, Yahuah Elohiym Tseva’oth (Lord Elohiym Almighty); just and true are Thy ways, Thou King of saints. Who shall not fear Thee, O Yahuah, and glorify Thy name? for Thou only art set-apart: for all nations shall come and worship before Thee; for T hy judgments are made manifest.”
Reflection: Just as Da’vid vows, we should vow to praise Yahuah Elohaykem forever because it is what will be doing when we get to His eternal kingdom.
Conclusion:
Psalm 61 moves from an initial desperate prayer for Elohiym’s deliverance and stability, symbolized by being led to a “higher rock,” to a confident commitment to perpetual praise and faithfulness to Elohiym as his eternal refuge and king. The psalm concludes with a promise to fulfill vows and offer sacrifices of praise, demonstrating a complete trust that Elohiym will hear and answer the prayer, providing shelter and a secure, long life for the righteous.
Tehilliym (Psalms) 62
A noble assertion of calm assurance in Elohiym in the midst of distress.
To the chief Musician, to Yeduthun, A Mizmor of Da’vid
Introduction:
Tehilliym 62 is a psalm of king Da’vid expressing profound trust in Elohiym as his sole source of salvation, refuge, and security amidst betrayal and deceit from enemies, likely during Avshalom’s rebellion. The psalm emphasizes a need to wait in silence, finding strength in Elohiym alone, while warning against placing confidence in temporary things like human schemes, wealth, or even other people, regardless of their social status. Da’vid encourages believers to trust in Elohiym’s enduring love and power, recognizing that true strength and justice belong to Him.
Tehilliym 62 (KJV-YS):
Verses 1-2: Waiting for Elohiym
Insights: The psalm begins with Da’vid stating that he waits for Elohiym because He is the Rock of his salvation and defense.
“1. Truly my soul waiteth upon Elohiym: from Him cometh my yeshu’ah (salvation). 2. He only is my Rock and my yeshu’ah (salvation); He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Cross References:
v-1: “Truly my soul waiteth upon Elohiym: from Him cometh my yeshu’ah (salvation).”
Qiynah (Lamentations) 3:25 – “Yahuah is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 25:4-5 – “Shew me Thy ways, O Yahuah; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the Elohiym of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day.”
Reflection: Da’vid knows that salvation comes to those who patiently wait for Yahuah to do things in His time and not on our time.
v-2: “He only is my Rock and my yeshu’ah (salvation); He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 18:1-2 – “I will love thee, O Yahuah, my strength. Yahuah is my Rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my Elohiym, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 26:4 –“Trust ye in Yahuah for ever: for in Yah Yahuah is everlasting strength:”
1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 10:13 – “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but Elohiym is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
Reflection: Yahuah alone is our Rock of salvation and our defence. If we wait and depend on Him, we will not be moved.
Verses 3-4: Plotting Haters
Insights: The evil and unrighteous always imagine evil against those who love and serve Yahuah. They try to find ways to take the righteous down.
“3. How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. 4. They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.”
Cross References:
v-3: “How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 1:22-23 – “How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at My reproof: behold, I will pour out My Ruach unto you, I will make known My words unto you.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 30:13-14 –“Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. And He shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; He shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.”
Reflection: Evil doers will always hate the knowledge of Elohiym and destruction will come upon them as a wall that has been breached or or a clay vessel that is thrown down.
v-4: “They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 28:3 – “Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.”

Reflection: The evil man delights in lies and deception in his never ending plotting against the righteous.
Verses 5-8: Elohiym the Rock of Our Salvation
Insights: Da’vid once again proclaims that Elohiym is his rock and salvation, that he will wait for Him because He is his defence at all times.
“5. My soul, wait thou only upon Elohiym; for my expectation is from Him. 6. He only is my Rock and my yeshu’ah (salvation): He is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7. In Elohiym is my yeshu’ah (salvation) and my glory: the Rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in Elohiym. 8. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: Elohiym is a refuge for us. Selah.”

Reflection: Once again Da’vid proclaims that he waits on Elohiym for he provides everything that is needed and expected for life.
v-6: “He only is my Rock and my yeshu’ah (salvation): He is my defence; I shall not be moved.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 16:8-9 – “I have set Yahuah always before me: because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.”

Ma’asiym (Acts) 4:12 – “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Reflection: The salvation of Elohiym only comes from His Rock, Mashiach Yahusha.
v-8: “Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: Elohiym is a refuge for us. Selah.” Tehilliym (Psalms) 42:4 – “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of Elohiym, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept the set-apart day.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 14:26-27 – “In the fear of Yahuah is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of Yahuah is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”
Reflection: Elohiym desires us to pour out our everything to Him, to trust in Him at all times and He will be our refuge, everything that we will ever need.
Verses 9-10: The Vanity of Men
Insights: Da’vid states that all men are liars and deal in vanity. He warns not to trust in oppressing or robbing the poor and to not set our hearts upon the riches of this world.
“9. Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. 10. Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.”
Cross References:
v-9: “Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 116:11-13 – “I said in my haste, All men are liars. What shall I render unto Yahuah for all His benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of Yahuah.”
Romayim (Romans) 3:3-4 – “For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of Elohiym without effect? Elohiym forbid: yea, let Elohiym be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”
Reflection: People from all walks of life are the same, they all lie and it doesn’t matter the status of a person because everything here is done in vain.
v-10: “Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 61:8 –“For I Yahuah love judgment, I hate robbery for ascending smoke offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. ”
Luqas (Luke) 12:15-17 & 20 – “And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And He spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 20. But Elohiym said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?”
1st Timotheus (Timothy) 6:10 & 17-19 – “10. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 17.Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living Elohiym, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
Reflection: Some people will do whatever it takes to get ahead in this life to have material wealth and this love of money, this greed, is the root of all evil. Yahuah looks for ministers to serve those who are less fortunate than they are and that are willing to stand up for the poor.
Verses 11-12: Elohiym Pays Everyone
Insights: Da’vid closes the psalm praising that power belongs to Elohiym and that He owns mercy and pays everyone according to their works.
“11. Elohiym hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto Elohiym. 12. Also unto thee, O Adonai, belongeth mercy: for Thou renderest to every man according to his work.”
Cross References:
v-11: “Elohiym hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto Elohiym.”

Chazon (Revelation) 19:1 – “And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Hallelu’Yah; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto Yahuah Elohaynu:”
Reflection: Elohiym is the strength and power to those that fear Him. Only through Mashiach Yahusha can we obtain salvation because He rose on the third morning with all power in His hand.
v-12: “Also unto thee, O Adonai, belongeth mercy: for Thou renderest to every man according to his work.” Tehilliym (Psalms) 103:17 – “But the mercy of Yahuah is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children’s children;”
1st Kepha (Peter) 1:17 – “And if ye call on the Father, Who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:”
Chazon (Revelation) 22:12 – “And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
Reflection: The psalm closes with Da’vid reminding us that mercy belongs to Yahuah and that He will pay each and every one of us according to the works we have or have not done while we are here
Conclusion:
Tehilliym 62 is a psalm that teaches that Elohiym alone is our eternal rock, salvation, and stronghold, providing true security and rest in the face of adversity and worldly pressures. The conclusion encourages believers to place unwavering trust and hope in Elohiym rather than in unreliable people or temporary wealth, and to pour out their hearts before Him in prayer, confident that He will be their ultimate refuge
