Tehilliym (Psalms) 65
A psalm and song of Da’vid which sings to Elohiym, “How great Thou are.”
To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of Da’vid.
Introduction:
Tehilliym 65 is a psalm of praise that moves from a focus on Elohiym’s work in His temple to His power in creation and His provision for the earth. It expresses thankfulness for answered prayers and forgiveness of sins, celebrates Elohiym’s might in creation (mountains, seas), and concludes with joyful praise for the abundant harvest provided by Elohiym. Attributed to Da’vid, it was probably composed for the Feast of Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles), a harvest festival, due to its themes of bounty and gratitude.
Tehilliym 65 (KJV-YS):
Verses 1-3: Elohiym is Worthy of Praise
Insights: The psalm begins with Da’vid stating that he will praise Elohiym and pay his vows to Him because He hears the prayers of everyone and Da’vid is praying that Elohiym will remove the iniquities and transgressions that plague him.
“1. Praise waiteth for Thee, O Elohiym, in Zion: and unto Thee shall the vow be performed. 2. O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come. 3. Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, Thou shalt purge them away.”
v-1: “Praise waiteth for Thee, O Elohiym, in Zion: and unto Thee shall the vow be performed.”
1st Hayamiym (Chronicles) 15:29 – “And it came to pass, as the Ark of the covenant of Yahuah came to the city of Da’vid, that Michal the daughter of Sha’ul looking out at a window saw king Da’vid dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 76:11 – “Vow, and pay unto Yahuah Elohaykem: let all that be round about Him bring presents unto Him that ought to be feared.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 115:1-2 – “Not unto us, O Yahuah, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy Truth’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their Elohiym? But our Elohiym is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased.”
Chazon (Revelation) 14:1-3 – “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with Him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.”
Reflection: One of the main things we can do to show our love and thankfulness to Elohiym is to bless and praise His beautiful and set-apart name with song, praise and worship.
v-2: “O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 145:18-20 – “Yahuah is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear Him: He also will hear their cry, and will save them. Yahuah preserveth all them that love Him: but all the wicked will He destroy.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 66:22-23 – “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before Me, saith Yahuah, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Shabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith Yahuah.”
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 29:12-14 – “Then shall ye call upon Me, and ye shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith Yahuah: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith Yahuah; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.”
1st Yochanon (John) 5:14-15 – “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.”
Reflection: Yahuah alone is the only One that can supply everything that we need. He hears our prayers and all flesh whether they know it or not is dependent upon Him for everything and must one day soon appear before Him.
v-3: “Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, Thou shalt purge them away.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 79:9 – “Help us, O Elohiym of our yeshu’ah (salvation), for the glory of Thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for Thy name’s sake.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 43:25 –“ I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”
Yochanon (John) 1:29 – “The next day Yochanon seeth Yahusha coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of Elohiym, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Reflection: Yahuah Elohiym is the only One that can remove the iniquity that wars against us, forgive the transgressions that occur because of that iniquity and purge everything away so we can serve Him completely in Truth and Ruach (Spirit).
Verses 4: The Chosen of Elohiym
Insights: Da’vid now switches to praising Elohiym for choosing him to come before Him so that he can dwell in the goodness of the house of Elohiym.
“4. Blessed is the man whom Thou choosest, and causest to approach unto Thee, that he may dwell in Thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Thy house, even of Thy set-apart temple.”
Cross References:

Reflection: Yahuah calls all to repentance and has chosen everyone to receive His salvation but it is always up to us to accept the call and choose to accept it.
Verses 5-8: Elohiym Controls Everything
Insights: Da’vid acknowledges that Elohiym is our salvation and everything depends on Him providing for that salvation. It is only by Him that all things consist.
“5. By terrible things in righteousness wilt Thou answer us, O Elohiym of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea: 6. Which by His strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power: 7. Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people. 8. They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at Thy tokens: Thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.”

Verses 9-10: Elohiym Provides for the Earth
Insights: Da’vid states that it is Elohiym that provides the water that makes everything grow in the earth.
“9. Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: Thou greatly enrichest it with the river of Elohiym, which is full of water: Thou preparest them grain, when Thou hast so provided for it. 10. Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: Thou settlest the furrows thereof: Thou makest it soft with showers: Thou blessest the springing thereof.”

Insights: Da’vid closes the psalm praising Elohiym for the abundance of the blessings He bestows upon everything in the creation.
“11. Thou crownest the year with Thy goodness; and Thy paths drop fatness. 12. They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side. 13. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain; they shout for joy, they also sing.”

It begins by acknowledging Elohiym’s forgiveness of sins and ability to hear prayers, noting that those who are chosen are blessed. The psalm then transitions to praise for Elohiym’s awesome deeds in nature, such as calming the seas and providing rain that makes the earth bountiful, and concludes with a joyous description of nature’s abundance in response to Elohiym’s blessings.
