Tehilliym (Psalms) 68 – Part 2

A song of praise to the ascended Elohiym Who brings yeshu’ah (salvation) to all nations.

To the chief Musician, A Psalm or Song of Da’vid.

Introduction:

Tehilliym (Psalms) 68 is a powerful victory psalm that proclaims Yahuah as the Mighty Warrior who rises to scatter His enemies and establish His righteous reign. It celebrates Yahuah’s presence among His people—from the wilderness journey to His dwelling place—showing Him as a defender of the fatherless, a judge of the oppressed, and the One who leads His redeemed in triumph. The psalm reveals a consistent scriptural theme: when Yahuah arises, chaos is driven back, justice is established, and His people are called to rejoice in His strength and salvation.

Tehilliym 68 (KJV-YS): Part 2

Verses 15-18:

Insights: The psalmist continues with praising Yahuah and His dwelling place as being better than the hills of Bashan and telling of His power over everything, even death, the grave and hell.

15. The hill of Elohiym is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan. 16. Why leap ye, ye high hills? this is the hill which Elohiym desireth to dwell in; yea, Yahuah will dwell in it for ever.
17. The chariots of Elohiym are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: Adonai is among them, as in Sinai, in the set-apart place. 18. Thou hast ascended on high, Thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that Yahuah Elohiym might dwell among them.”

Cross References:

v-15: “The hill of Elohiym is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 2:3-“
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Yahuah, to the house of the Elohai of Ya’aqov; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the Torah, and the Word of Yahuah from Yerushalayim.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 12:22-23 –
“But ye are come unto mount Tsion, and unto the city of the living Elohiym, the heavenly Yerushalayim, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and called-out assembly of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to Elohiym the Judge of all, and to the ruachoth (spirits) of just men made perfect,”
Reflection: Bashan is a fertile region where the nephiliym (giant king Og) ruled with beautiful mountains and was a prized possession that kings wanted to own and the high mountains of it were places that idol worship occurred.

v-16: “Why leap ye, ye high hills? this is the hill which Elohiym desireth to dwell in; yea, Yahuah will dwell in it for ever.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 132:13-14 –
“For Yahuah hath chosen Tsion; He hath desired it for His habitation. This is My rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.”
Yochanon (John) 4:21-24
“Yahusha saith unto her, Woman, believe Me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Yerushalayim, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for yeshu’ah (salvation) is of the Yahudiym. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in ruach and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. Elohiym is a Ruach: and they that worship Him must worship Him in ruach and in truth.”
Chazon (Revelation) 14:1
“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the Mount Tsion, and with Him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads.”
Reflection: Father Yahuah desires to dwell in the true Tsion which is His set-apart place. The entire creation belongs to Him but His desire is to dwell in those that love Him in Truth and Ruach not in a physical building or mountain.

v-17: “The chariots of Elohiym are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: Adonai is among them, as in Sinai, in the set-apart place.”
Daniy’el (Daniel) 7:9-10 –
“I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool: His throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him: thousand thousands ministered unto Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. ”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 26:53 –
“Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve legions of angels?”
Reflection: Yahuah is always among us and has the power of war that we cannot comprehend. He will always defeat those who hate Him and His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach through their disobedience to all of His commandments.

v-18: “Thou hast ascended on high, Thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that Yahuah Elohiym might dwell among them.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 110:1-2 –
“Yahuah said unto my Adonai, Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool. Yahuah shall send the rod of Thy strength out of Tsion: rule Thou in the midst of Thine enemies.”
Eph’siym (Ephesians) 2:3 – “Wherefore He saith, When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fill all things.)”
Reflection: The psalmist praises Yahuah for capturing those that lead others into captivity.

Verses 19-23:

Insights: The psalmist blesses Elohiym for His beautiful gift of yeshu’ah (salvation) that triumphs over death and Who eternally wounds those who seek to destroy His people.

“19. Blessed be Adonai, Who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the El of our yeshu’ah (salvation). Selah. 20. He that is our Elohiym is the El of yeshu’ah; and unto Yahuah Adonai belong the issues from death. 21. But Elohiym shall wound the head of His enemies, and the hairy scalp of such an one as goeth on still in His trespasses. 22. Yahuah said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring My people again from the depths of the sea: 23. That thy foot may be dipped in the blood of thine enemies, and the tongue of thy dogs in the same.”

If I whet My glittering sword, and Mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to Mine enemies, and will reward them that hate Me.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 12:2-3 “Behold, El is my yshua’ah (salvation); I will trust, and not be afraid: for YAH Yahuah is my strength and my song; He also is become my yeshu’ah. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of yeshu’ah.”

Conclusion:

Tehilliym 68:15–35 declares the supreme kingship and victorious power of Yahuah over all creation. The psalm contrasts the proud mountains of Bashan with Mount Tsion, showing that Yahuah does not choose a place based on earthly greatness but according to His purpose and presence. Though Bashan appears majestic, Yahuah establishes His dwelling in Tsion, revealing that His glory—not human elevation—determines where His name rests and that is supposed to be in the hearts of those who love Him through obedience.
The psalm then celebrates Yahuah as the eternal King who ascends in triumph, leading captivity captive and receiving gifts among men. This victory foreshadows the work of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach, who conquered sin and death and ascended on high, as echoed in the Brit Ha’dasha. Yahuah is portrayed as the One who daily bears His people’s burdens and delivers them from death, showing His continual care for those who belong to Him.
The latter portion of the passage shifts to a prophetic vision of worldwide recognition of Yahuah’s sovereignty. Kings and nations are called to bring tribute and sing praises to the One who rides upon the heavens. The psalm concludes with a declaration that all power and strength belong to Yahuah, and that He gives strength to His people from His sanctuary.
