The Gospel According to Marqus 10 (KJV-YS): Part 3

Overall Introduction:

Marqus chapter ten is an introduction to Yahusha’s final ministry in Yerushalayim, where He teaches on the cost and the reward of following Him, including His doctrine on adultery, divorce, and remarriage with a living spouse, the rich young ruler’s story, His foretelling of His own death again, and His healing of blind Bartimaeus. The chapter also contains a pivotal moment where He blesses little children and teaches that the way to greatness is through service to others, which represents a dividing line between Yahusha’s public ministry and His Passion.

Marqus 10: 35-45 – Mashiach Teaches True Servanthood

Insights: After teaching the talmidiym of His death and resurrection on the way to Yerushalayim, the brothers Ya’aqov and Yochanon, the sons of Zavdiy, come to Yahusha and ask Him to give them whatever they ask of Him and He asks them what it is they desire. They then tell Mashiach that they want to sit at His right and left hands when He enters into His glory but Yahusha tells them that they don’t know what they are asking. He then asks them if they can drink of the same cup that He is getting ready to drink and endure they baptism that He will endure and they tell Him that they can endure it. He tells them that they will indeed drink of the cup and endure what He will have to go through but that what they ask, it is not given to Him to appoint that but it is reserved for the ones it is prepared for. When the other ten talmidiym heard what they were asking they didn’t like it but Mashiach calls them to Him and explains that the kingdom of Elohiym isn’t like the kingdom of the other nations because in His kingdom, the greatest is the minister of everyone. He tells them that whoever wants to be the greatest will be the servant of all just as He Himself didn’t come to be ministered unto but came to minister and to give His life as a ransom for many.

“35. And Ya’aqov and Yochanon, the sons of Zavdiy, come unto Him, saying, Master, we would that Thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire. 36. And He said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? 37. They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on Thy right hand, and the other on Thy left hand, in Thy glory. 38. But Yahusha said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39. And they said unto him, We can. And Yahusha said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: 40. But to sit on My right hand and on My left hand is not Mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared. 41. And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with Ya’aqov and Yochanon. 42. But Yahusha called them to Him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the other nations exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. 43. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant (minister): 44. And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be slave of all. 45. For even the Son of A’dam came not to be served (ministered unto), but to serve (minister), and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Cross References Verse 35-45:
v35:
“And Ya’aqov and Yochanon, the sons of Zavdiy, come unto Him, saying, Master, we would that Thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.”
1stMelekiym (Kings) 2:20 –
“Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me not nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.”
Marqus (Mark) 1:19-20 –
“And when He had gone a little further thence, He saw Ya’aqov the son of Zavdiy, and Yochannon his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets. And straightway He called them: and they left their father Zavdiy in the ship with the hired servants, and went after Him.”
Marqus (Mark) 5:37 –
“And He suffered no man to follow Him, save Kepha, and Ya’aqov, and Yochannon the brother of Ya’aqov. ”
Reflection:
After hearing of Mashiach’s death and resurrection, the two brothers wanted to get their request in for the kingdom to come because they had a very personal relationship with Mashiach as He had taken them with Him to His transfiguration.

v36: “And He said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?”
2ndHayamiym (Chronicles) 1:7 –
“In that night did Elohiym appear unto Shalomah, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.”
Yochanon (John) 15:7 “If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
Reflection:
Yahusha already knew what they wanted of Him but He wanted them to say it so that He could teach them the important lesson of how it actually works in the kingdom of Elohiym.

v37: “They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on Thy right hand, and the other on Thy left hand, in Thy glory.”
Shemoth (Exodus) 15:6
“Thy right hand, O Yahuah, is become glorious in power: Thy right hand, O Yahuah, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 110:1 –
“Yahuah said unto my Adonai, Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool.”
Luqas (Luke) 14:8 & 11 –
“When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; & 11. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
Eph’siym (Ephesians) 1:20-21 –
“Which He wrought in Mashiach, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:”
Reflection:
To sit a the right or left hand of a king was the highest honour and a most prestigious place to sit, it meant that you were next to the king and only the king was above you. As shown in the parable of the wedding, we are continually walk in humbleness, meekness and humility.

v38: “But Yahusha said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 75:8 –
“For in the hand of Yahuah there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and He poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 51:22
“Thus saith thy Adonai Yahuah, and thy Elohiym that pleadeth the cause of His people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:”
Yochanon (John) 18:11
“Then said Yahusha unto Kepha, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which My Father hath given Me, shall I not drink it?”
Reflection:
Mashiach Yahusha knew the cup of the wrath of Father Yahuah He was going to have to drink in order to redeem us back to Him. This is a cup that none are able to drink because we all have our own sin and we cannot make atonement for anyone because of this sin including ourselves.

v39: “And they said unto him, We can. And Yahusha said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:”
Yochanon (John) 15:20
“Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his adoniy. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.”
Ma’asiym (Acts) 12:2 –
“And he killed Ya’aqov the brother of Yochanon with the sword.”
Reflection:
The brothers though they could drink of the exact same cup as Mashiach and so that is what they said. They indeed would have to drink of the cup of the world hating, persecuting and killing them but they did not drink of the cup of the wrath of Elohiym that was poured out on Mashiach for the sins and transgressions of all those who are found written in the Lamb’s book of life.

v40: “But to sit on My right hand and on My left hand is not Mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 25:34
“Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:”
Yochanon (John) 17:24 “Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me: for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 11:16 –
“But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore Elohiym is not ashamed to be called their Elohiym: for He hath prepared for them a city.”
Ya’aqov(James) 4:3 –
“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
Reflection:
The brothers had asked for something that was not prepared for them to have, or was it? When we ask things of Yahuah, we have to ensure that it is His will for us to have what we ask for. It should be our primary goal to just make it into the kingdom of Yahuah.

v41: “And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with Ya’aqov and Yochanon.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 13:10 –
“Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”
Marqus (Mark) 9:34 –
“But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”
Romaiym (Romans) 12:10 –
“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”
Reflection:
The other talmidiym were displease with the brothers but why? Was it because they had asked before they could think to or did they understand the truth Yahusha was teaching?

v42: “But Yahusha called them to Him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the other nations exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 28:15-16 –
“As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 1:23
“Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.”
Yechezq’el (Ezekiel) 34:2-4 –
“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Yashar’el, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith Adonai Yahuah unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Yashar’el that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.”
1stKepha (Peter) 5:2-4 –
“Feed the flock of Elohiym which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being adoniym over Elohiym’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.”
Reflection:
Yahusha calls the talmidiym to Him and begins to teach the true way that the kingdom of Elohiym operates and that it isn’t like the kingdoms of the world operate. The kings and rulers of this world only have their own interest in mind and they exercise great authority over their subjects to impose their will over them.

v43: “But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant (minister):”
Bemidbar (Numbers) 12:3 –
“(Now the man Mosheh was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 37:11 –
“But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 15:33 –
“The fear of Yahuah is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 22:4 –
“By humility and the fear of Yahuah are riches, and honour, and life.”
Zephanyahu (Zephaniah) 2:3
“Seek ye Yahuah, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought His judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of Yahuah’s anger.”
Reflection:
The lesson continues with Mashiach teaching that the great in the kingdom will not be as it is in this world but the great will be the servant. He teaches them once again that the meek and humble will be great in His kingdom and that those in positions of power have the responsibility to serve those who are lower to ensure they have what they need to survive here. The trustees, deacons, ministers and pastors/shepherds here are to be the lowest servants of the people Yahuah Elohiym has placed them to lead.

v44: “And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be slave of all.”
Bemidbar (Numbers) 12:7 –
“My servant (slave) Moses is not so, who is faithful in all Mine house.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 66:2 –
“For all those things hath Mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith Yahuah: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word.”
Romaiym (Romans) 6:22 –
“But now being made free from sin, and become slaves to Elohiym, ye have your fruit unto set-apartness, and the end everlasting life.”
Eph’siym (Ephesians) 6:6 –
“Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the slaves of Mashiach, doing the will of Elohiym from the heart;”
Reflection:
Yahusha’s lesson continues by teaching that the highest leader is the slave of all that he is responsible for. It is his responsibility to ensure that everyone has what they need and their care is ultimately the leaders responsibility.

Marqus 10: 46-52 – Yahusha Heals the Blind

Insights: Continuing the journey to Yerushalayim, Yahusha and the talmidiym come to Yeriycho where a large crowd gathers around them. As they are walking the come to man who begged by the side of the road begging. The beggar, blind Bartimaeus, began to cry out when he heard it was Yahusha, asking Him to have mercy on him. The crowd tried to silence him but this only caused him to cry out more. This caused Mashiach to stop and tell them to call him to Him. The blind man wasted no time in going to Yahusha who then asked him what he desired of Him and the blind man told him that he wanted to be able to see. Mashiach to him to go his way because his faith had made him whole and immediately the man received his sight and followed Yahusha on His way to Yerushalayim.

“46. And they came to Yeriycho: and as He went out of Yeriycho with his talmidiym and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47. And when he heard that it was Yahusha of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Yahusha, thou son of Da’vid, have mercy on me. 48. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of Da’vid, have mercy on me. 49. And Yahusha stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; He calleth thee. 50. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Yahusha. 51. And Yahusha answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Adonai, that I might receive my sight. 52. And Yahusha said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Yahusha in the way.”

“And He cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto Him, and besought Him to touch him.”

Just as today, the people of the time didn’t want the blind man crying out to Yahusha to be healed or saved.

v49: “And Yahusha stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; He calleth thee.”

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”
Reflection:
When Yahuah commands us to do something, we should jump up and do it as quickly as we can.

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan unto Elohiym, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Me.”
Reflection:
Because of his swift response and obedience, the blind man gets his petition heard by Mashiach. Are you asking Yahuah to give you sight into His Torah and what He desires from you?

v52: “And Yahusha said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Yahusha in the way.”

Yochanon (John) 9:39 – “And Yahusha said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.”

Mattithyahu (Matthew) 11:5
“The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the besorah preached to them.”
Reflection:
The blind man regains his sight and instead of going his own way as many do once they received what they have asked for, Bartimaeus instead chooses to follow Mashiach on His journey to Yerushalayim.

Reflection:
The blind man regains his sight and instead of going his own way as many do once they received what they have asked for, Bartimaeus instead chooses to follow Mashiach on His journey to Yerushalayim.

Summary of The Gospel of Marqus Chapter 10 Part 3

In Marqus chapter ten part three, Yahusha is asked of two of His talmidiym to sit at His side when He enters into His kingdom. He then teaches His talmidiym that meekness and servitude is how to become the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. He teaches that those who are leaders in the kingdom of Elohiym are to be the servants of all of the ones we are leading and if they are the chiefest leader they are required to be the slave of all. The chapter closes with Yahusha healing a blind man who cried out and had faith enough to be healed and after he is healed he chooses to follow Yahusha.
