The Gospel According to Marqus 6 (KJV-YS):
Introduction:
The sixth chapter of the Besorah of Marqus begins with Yahusha returning to His hometown of Nazareth where He is met with hatred and ridicule. He then sends out his talmidiym to teach, heal the sick and cast out demons. While they are away, Herod hears of Yahusha’s fame and thinks it is Yahuchanon the baptizer risen from the dead. We are then told the story of how Yahuchanon was executed.
When the twelve talmidiym return to Yahusha, they tell Him of what they have been doing and He instructs them to come with Him and separate themselves into the desert. A large group of people follow them and Yahusha feeds the five thousand men plus the women and children. The multitudes continue to surround Yahusha and His talmidiym so much that He tells them to get in the ship and go to the other side unto Bethsaida while He sends the people away. When He has finally dispersed the people, He goes into a mountain to pray. Evening comes and He sees the talmidiym tolling in the ship because the wind was contrary to them and He walks on the water to them and they are afraid and don’t recognize Him because their heart was hardened. He calms the sea and this makes them even more afraid. The chapter ends with them finally recognizing Yahusha when they get off of the ship.
Marqus 6: 1–6a – Hometown Haters
“1. And He went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his talmidiym follow him. 2. And when the Shabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this Man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by His hands? 3. Is not this the carpenter, the Son of Miryam, the brother of Ya’aqov, and Yoceph, and of Yahudah, and Shim’on? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him. 4. But Yahusha, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5. And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6. And He marvelled because of their unbelief.”
Insights: Yahusha returns to His hometown of Nazareth and is ridiculed by the residents that do not accept Him, His teachings or His works.
Cross References Verses 1-5:
Bemidbar (Numbers) 19:28 –“And Yahuah said unto Mosheh, How long will this people provoke Me? and how long will it be ere they believe Me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? ”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 78:22 –“Because they believed not in Elohiym, and trusted not in His yeshuah (salvation):”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 59:1-2 –“Behold, Yahuah’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your Elohiym, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 4:2 –“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. “
Yochanon (John) 4:44 – “For Yahusha Himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.”
Reflection: After returning to His hometown of Nazareth, Yahusha teaches in the synagogue and they question saying: “Who does He think He is?” Isn’t He that nobody, the son of Miryam?” They harassed and despised Him so much that He marveled at it and was only able to heal a few sick folk in the town.
The account in Luqas tells of Him reading the Haftarah portion in a synagogue in Nazareth and when He preaches to them, they were filled with wrath and thrust Him out of the town and tried to push Him off the cliff of the mountain Nazareth is on but He passed through the midst of them and escaped.

Marqus 6: 6b–13 – Yahusha Sends the Twelve to Teach, Heal and Cast Out Devils
6b. And He went round about the villages, teaching. 7. And He called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean ruachoth (spirits); 8. And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: 9. But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats. 10. And He said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place. 11. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12. And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 13. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.”
Insights: Yahusha goes around to the surrounding villages and continues teaching. He then calls His talmidiym and sends them out to teach, heal and cast out devils.
Cross References Verse 6b-13:
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 19:15 – “One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 59:16 –“And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore His Arm brought yeshuah (salvation) unto Him; and His righteousness, it sustained Him.”
Yechezq’el (Ezekiel) 18:30 – “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Yashar’el, every one according to his ways, saith the Adonai Yahuah. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.”
Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes) 4:9-10 – “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 10:26-31 – “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the Truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Mosheh’s Law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of Elohiym, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith He was sanctified, an unset-apart thing, and hath done despite unto the Ruach Chen (of grace)? For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto Me, I will recompense, saith Yahuah. And again, Yahuah shall judge His people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living Elohiym.”
Ya’aqov (James) 5:14-15 – “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the called-out assembly; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of Yahuah: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and Yahuah shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”
2nd Timotheus (Timothy) 2:25-26 – “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if Elohiym peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the Truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
Reflection: Yahusha teaches in the villages around Nazareth and then He sends out His talmidiym to teach, heal and to cast out demons. He commands them what to take with them, only essentials, because Father Yahuah would provide for them. He sends them in pairs because it is better to have two witnesses to something instead of just one. They are commanded to stay where they are welcome and if they get rejected, to knock the dust off their feet and keep going because they have done what they have been commanded to do, and now the ones who rejected them will have to answer to Yahuah. The talmidiym heal many and cast out demons just as the elders of the set apart assembly are supposed to be able to do today.

Marqus 6:14–16 – Herod Hears and Fears
14. And king Herod heard of Him; (for His name was spread abroad:) and he said, That Yahuchanon the Baptizer was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. 15. Others said, That it is Eliyahu. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets. 16. But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is Yahuchanon, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

Chazon (Revelations) 11:10 – “And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.”

Marqus 6: 17–29 – The Story of the Beheading of Yahuchanon the Baptizer
17. For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon Yahuchanon, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s woman: for he had married her. 18. For Yahuchanon had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s woman. 19. Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: 20. For Herod feared Yahuchanon, knowing that he was a just man and a set-apart and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. 21. And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his adoniym, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee; 22. And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. 23. And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom. 24. And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of Yahuchanon the Baptizer. 25. And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of Yahuchanon the Baptizer. 26. And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her. 27. And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, 28. And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother. 29. And when his talmidiym heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.”

2nd Divrei Hayamiym (Chronicles) 18:25-26 – “Then the king of Yashar’el said, Take ye Miykayahu, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son; And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.”

Ivriym (Hebrews) 13:4 – “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers Elohiym will judge.”
1st Melekiym (Kings) 19:1-2 –“And Ahab told Jezebel את all that Eliyahu had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Eliyahu, saying, so let the elohiym do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.”
1st Melekiym (Kings) 22:6-7 – “Then the king of Yashar’el gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for Adonai shall deliver it into the hand of the king. And Yahushaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Yahuah besides, that we might inquire of him?”Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 40:20 –“And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.”

Romaiym (Romans) 1:28-31 – “And even as they did not like to retain Elohiym in their knowledge, Elohiym gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of Elohiym, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 1:16 – “For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.”
1st Melekiym (Kings) 15:29-30 – “And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of Elohiym, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him. And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!”
Reflection: Herod Anitpas tetriarch of Galilee, the second son of Herod the Great (Mt 2:1 ; Lu 1:5), had imprisoned Yahuchanon for rebuking him for committing adultery with his brother’s woman by marrying her. This may sound like a story twist from a modern day soap opera or movie, but they have nothing on the salacious scandals found in the scriptures, and this is one of them. Herod had married his brother’s wife and she hated Yahuchanon for telling them of their sin. She would have had Yahuchanon executed but Herod feared him because he knew he was of Yahuah. Kings of antiquity celebrated their birthdays by throwing parties for the people that were under them or served them. They gave them gifts and rewards a this celebration and Herod was no different. He was flaunting his power in front of his friends for his daughter-in-law/niece who had just please them by dancing and flirting with his adoniym and captains that he told her he would give her anything that she wanted. Herod got caught in one of the oldest games it is and promised a young girl up to half of his kingdom if she wanted it, but she wanted to please her mother and went and asked her what she should ask for from Herod. Her mother seized the opportunity and told her to ask for the head of Yahuchanon the baptizer. She came back in haste and told Herod what she wanted and he was sorry but he couldn’t say no after he had sworn an oath in front of his subjects to her. This is a lesson on so many levels of how the enemy operates and what awaits some of us in this world for our love of Father Yahuah.

Summary of The Gospel of Marqus Chapter 6: Part 1
The first half of the sixth chapter of Marqus starts off with Yahusha returning to His hometown of Nazareth, teaching and healing in the synagogue, and being ridiculed and rejected by the people who had know Him growing up. It doesn’t stop Him but He continues to do as much as He can and then sends out His talmidiym in pairs to teach, heal the sick and cast out devils. While the disciples are out evangelizing, king Herod hears of Yahusha and what He is doing and thinks it is Yahuchanon the baptizer risen from the dead. We are then told the story of how he murdered Yahuchanon and that his talmidiym came and got his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
