The Gospel According to Marqus 8 (KJV-YS): Part 1

Introduction:

The eighth chapter of the Besorah of Marqus is the halfway point through the book and is considered a pivotal chapter in the gospel of Marqus. It’s location is still in the land of the lost tribes around the Sea of Galilee. The chapter contains many significant events that include Yahusha feeding the four thousand, another battle with the Pharisees, Kepha’s recognition and confession that Yahusha is the Mashiach, Yahusha’s first prediction of His own suffering, death, and resurrection on the cross and His stern warnings of the importance of a person’s soul. The chapter highlights themes of spiritual blindness, the true cost of following Yahusha and being His talmidiym. Yahusha calls His followers to deny themselves, take up their crosses to follow Him and to not be ashamed of Him or of His words or He will be ashamed of them in front of His Father Yahuah.

Marqus 8: 1–10 – Feeding the Four Thousand

Insights: The chapter starts off with a great multitude of people following Yahusha because they had seen the miracles He was doing such as Him healing the deaf man who couldn’t speak at the end of chapter seven. He most always charged the people to tell no one but they couldn’t help themselves, they would tell everyone they could! Now there was a large crowd of four thousand men plus women and children, probably around eight thousand people total, that had been following Yahusha for three days and He knew they were hungry, had compassion on them and He proceeds to miraculously feed this great multitude of people.

“1. In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Yahusha called His talmidiym unto Him, and saith unto them, 2. I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat: 3. And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. 4. And his talmidiym answered Him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? 5. And He asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. 6. And He commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and He took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to His talmidiym to set before them; and they did set them before the people. 7. And they had a few small fishes: and He blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. 8. So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. 9. And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and He sent them away. 10. And straightway He entered into a ship with His talmidiym , and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.”

Then shall they also answer Him, saying, Adonai, when saw we Thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto Thee? Mattithyahu (Matthew) 4:15
“The land of Zevulun, and the land of Naphtaliy, by the way of the sea, beyond Yardan, Galilee of the other nations (gentiles).”

Reflections:

v1. Yahusha starts the chapter off with showing His talmidiym and us the way to be a servant to those in need.
v2. He knew the multitude was hungry because He Himself got hungry and He had compassion on them, feed them, and we are to do the same when we see anyone hungry or in need of daily provisions.
v3. The multitude had been with Yahusha three days, they were a long way in the wilderness and He didn’t want them to have to fast on their journey back home. It is possible that some, most or all of them had been fasting while they were with Him. Yahuah is good to and has compassion on all who follow Him, will provide for their needs, and sometimes we are the vessels of His provision for others.
v4. His talmidiym, even after seeing all the miracles so far, have no faith and ask Him where they are supposed to get enough food to feed the people.
v5. It is easy for us to say they should have had faith but this is a very real problem that many powerful persons of faith have had to overcome and that is to feed the people of Yahuah.
v6. Yahusha commands the people to sit and then He does as we should do, He gives thanks for the food but what is not recorded in the gospels is that He gave thanks after eating as well as before eating as commanded by the Torah.
v7. The few small fish they had,Yahusha blessed them and commanded they be distributed by the talmidiym. Yahusha is still commanding His talmidiym to feed His flock today.
v8. The goodness and provisions of Yahuah cannot be fathomed as He provides food for all of the creation, every day and there are leftovers. He charges us to be good stewards as best we can over the bountiful provisions He gives us.
v9. Four thousand men as well as the women and children were fed by Yahusha. Yahuah will always provide nourishment for His people and our souls will be satisfied if we seek after Him. He is the bread of life and we live off of Him because He is The Word that proceed our of Yahuah’s mouth and He will never send us away hungry.
v10. Yahusha continues His journeys through the land of the lost tribes around the Sea of Galilee bringing light to the children of Yashar’el that were walking in darkness.

Marqus 8: 11–21 – The Leaven of the Pharisees

Insights: As soon as Yahusha gets off the ship the Pharisees and Sadducees came questioning Him and seeking a sign from heaven tempting Him. This frustrated Yahusha causing Him to sigh deeply in His ruach and He questions them why do they need a sign from heaven? He tells them that they will not get a sign and leaves them by ship. The talmidiym forgot to bring any bread and Yahusha tell them to be careful of the leaven of the Pharisees and they do not understand what Yahusha is talking about. He then questions them why they don’t understand, He explains everything to them and asks them again why they don’t understand?

11. And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with Him, seeking of Him a sign from heaven, tempting Him. 12. And He sighed deeply in His ruach (spirit), and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? truly I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation. 13. And He left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side. 14. Now the talmidiym had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. 15. And He charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. 16. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. 17. And when Yahusha knew it, He saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? 18. Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? 19. When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto Him, Twelve. 20. And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. 21. And He said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?”
