The Gospel According to Marqus 9 (KJV-YS): Part 1
Overall Introduction:
The ninth chapter of the Besorah of Marqus is a pivotal Brit Ha’dasha text that features Yahusha’s Transfiguration, where He is seen in radiant glory by Kepha, Ya’aqov, and Yochanon. The chapter also includes Yahusha’s confrontation with a demon-possessed boy and his father, His teachings on the importance of humility, the danger of leading others to sin, and His final teaching of the chapter, the greatest in the Kingdom of Elohiym is the servant of all.
Marqus 9:1 – Yahusha Tells of His Resurrection
Insights: The chapter starts off with a verse that should have been the last verse in chapter 8 of the Besorah of Marqus where Yahusha foretells of His death and resurrection.
“1. And He said unto them, Amein I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of Elohiym come with power.”
Cross References Verse 1:
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 2:17 –“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Marqus 1:15 – “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of Elohiym is at hand: repent ye, and believe the besorah (gospel).”
Yochanon (John) 8:51 – “Amein, amein, I say unto you, If a man guard My saying, he shall never see death.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 2:9 – “But we see Yahusha, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of Elohiym should taste death for every man.”
Reflection: This verse can be a little hard to understand if not taken in the correct context. Some think that this means there is an original disciple still alive today who is waiting for the kingdom of Elohiym but the kingdom of Elohiym came with power and raised Mashiach Yahusha on the third day and came with more power when the Ruach Ha’Qodesh came.

Marqus 9:2-13 – Yahusha’s Transfiguration
Insights: After six days Yahusha takes Kepha, Ya’aqov and Yochanon on a journey that will change the three talmidiym as they get a glimpse of who Yahusha Ha’Mashiach really is and how important He has been throughout the journeys of the children of Yashar’el.
“2. And after six days Yahusha taketh with him Kepha, and Ya’aqov, and Yochanon, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and He was transfigured before them. 3. And His raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4. And there appeared unto them Eliyahu with Mosheh: and they were talking with Yahusha. 5. And Kepha answered and said to Yahusha, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three sukkoth (tabernacles); one for Thee, and one for Mosheh, and one for Eliyahu. 6. For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My Yachiyd (Beloved Son): hear Him. 8. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Yahusha only with themselves. 9. And as they came down from the mountain, He charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of A’dam were risen from the dead. 10. And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. 11. And they asked Him, saying, Why say the scribes that Eliyahu must first come? 12. And He answered and told them, Eliyahu indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of A’dam, that He must suffer many things, and be set at nought. 13. But I say unto you, That Eliyahu is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.”
Cross References Verse 2-13:
v2: “And after six days Yahusha taketh with him Kepha, and Ya-aqov, and Yochanon, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and He was transfigured before them.”
Shemoth (Exodus) 24:13 – “And Mosheh rose up, and his minister Yahusha: and Mosheh went up into the mount of Elohiym.”
Yochanon (John) 1:14 – “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the Only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Romaiym (Romans) 12:2 – “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of Elohiym.”
Reflection: Yahusha sets His three trusted talmidiym apart and takes them with Him up in a high mountain by themselves and is changed before them by the presence of Father Yahuah. This is a very powerful moment in the life and ministry of Yahusha as it was a direct meeting between He and Father Yahuah. This meeting changed Ruach Mashiach inwardly as it was Ruach Elohiym that empowered Yahusha to prepare for and endure His sacrifice of love on the cross.
v-3: “And His raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.”
Daniy’el (Daniel) 7:9 – “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool: His throne was like the fiery flame, and His wheels as burning fire.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 104:1-2 –“Bless Yahuah, O my soul. O Yahuah Elohai, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest Thyself with light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:”
Miykah (Micah) 3:2 – “But who may abide the day of His coming? And who shall stand when He appeareth? For He is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:”
Reflection: The meeting of Ruach Father Yahuah and Ruach Mashiach not only changed the inner Yahusha but it made everything about Mashiach Yahusha become a brilliant display of His Royalty. His raiment shined so bright it appeared as light and exceedingly white as snow that no human process can obtain!! When He returns who will be able to stand before the brilliance of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach!
v4: “ And there appeared unto them Eliyahu with Mosheh: and they were talking with Yahusha.”
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 34:5-6 – “So Mosheh the servant of Yahuah died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of Yahuah And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.”
2nd Melekiym (Kings) 2:11-12 – “And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Eliyahu went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Eliysha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Yashar’el, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.”
Miykah (Micah) 4:4-5 – “Remember ye the Torah of Mosheh My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Yashar’el, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Eliyahu the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahuah:”
1st Kepha (Peter) 1:10-12 – “Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Ruach of Mashiach which was in them did signify, when It testified before hand the sufferings of Mashiach, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the besorah unto you with the Ruach Ha’qodesh sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.”
Reflection: The two great prophets appear and have conversation with Yahusha. I can’t even imagine what they would have been discussing but I am sure of one thing, all three of them were blessing and praising Father Yahuah! So that there is no confusion, Mashiach Yahusha knew Mosheh and Eliyahu personally before this encounter just as He stated that He knew the fathers and prophets.
v5: “And Kepha answered and said to Yahusha, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three sukkah (tabernacles); one for Thee, and one for Mosheh, and one for Eliyahu.”
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 23:41-43 –“And ye shall keep it a feast unto Yahuah seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month. Ye shall dwell in sukkoth seven days; all that are Yashar’el born shall dwell in sukkoth: That your generations may know that I made the children of Yashar’el to dwell in sukkoth, when I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim: I am Yahuah Elohaykem.”
Philippiym (Philippians) 1:23 – “Wherefore Elohiym also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is the glory of Elohiym the Father.”
Reflection: Kepha is the only one recorded as saying anything and it appears that he is a little shocked about what is going on because all he can do is suggest that they put up three sukkah, one for each of the prophets. Maybe it was the Feast of Sukkoth and he was preparing for the eighth day and wanted to have a sukkah ready or maybe it was as simple as he was just flabbergasted.
v6: “For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.”
Shemoth (Exodus) 34:30 – “And when Aharon and all the children of Yashar’el saw Mosheh, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 17:6-7 – “And when the talmidiym heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Yahusha came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.”
Chazon (Revelation) 1:17 – “And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:”
Reflection: Whenever people come into the true presence of Father Yahuah, the Fear of Yahuah truly comes upon them and they do what everyone does, they fall down in fear. This is the thing that is missing from 99.9% of believer’s lives today is The Fear of Father Yahuah!
v7: “And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My Yachiyd (Beloved Son): hear Him.”
Shemoth (Exodus) 40:34 – “Then a cloud covered the tent of the assembly, and the glory of Yahuah filled the tabernacle.”
Shemoth (Exodus) 23:21-22 – “Beware of Him, and obey His voice, provoke Him not; for He will not pardon your transgressions: for My name is in Him. But if thou shalt indeed obey His voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.”
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 18:15-6 – “Yahuah Elohaykem will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him ye shall hearken;”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 2:7 – “I will declare the decree: Yahuah hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee.”
2nd Kepha (Peter) 1:17 – “For He received from Elohiym the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Reflection: Out of the cloud Father Yahuah commands that this is His Beloved Yachiyd and that we are to hear and obey Him. When Mashiach Yahusha returns He will be as the angel that led Yashar’el out of Mitsrayim, there will be no other choice but to obey Him because He is the Captain of the Host of Yahuah and will rule with a rod of iron.
v8: “And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Yahusha only with themselves.”
1st Melekiym (Kings) 18:12 – “And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Ruach Yahuah shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahav, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear Yahuah from my youth.”
Ma’asiym (Acts) 8:39-40 – “And when they were come up out of the water, the Ruach Yahuah caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.”
Reflection: When Ruach Yahuah shows up things happen very fast and just like everything happened in an instant, in an instant everything was gone.
v9: “And as they came down from the mountain, He charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of A’dam were risen from the dead.”
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 29:29 – “The secret things belong unto Yahuah Elohaykem: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this Torah.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 11:13 – “A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful ruach concealeth the matter.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 53:10 -12-“Yet it pleased Yahuah to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when Thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of Yahuah shall prosper in His hand. He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My righteous Servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 12:40 – “For as Yonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of A’dam be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
Reflection: Yahusha made the three talmidiym promise to not reveal what they had witnessed to anyone until He had risen from the dead. In our walk in the way with Mashiach Yahusha as our Shepherd, there are somethings that will be revealed to us that we cannot tell anyone. Yahusha constantly told people to not tell others of what He had done or what they had seen because of the miraculous and divine nature of what He was doing. If the three would have told what they had witnessed what would people’s reaction have been?
v10: “And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 26:19 –“Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.”
Husha (Hosea) 13:14 – “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.”
Daniy’el (Daniel) 12:2 – “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”
Reflection: The talmidiym kept what He had said to themselves but couldn’t understand what Yahusha was talking about. There were two very different groups of religious leaders in Yashar’el, the Pharisees who believed in the resurrection of the dead and the Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. They also could not understand if the dead were risen why there was a need for the secrecy Yahusha wanted, everyone would know who He was.
v11: “And they asked Him, saying, Why say the scribes that Eliyahu must first come?”
Mal’akiy (Malachi) 3:1 – “Behold, I will send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me: and Adonai, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, He shall come, saith Yahuah Tseva’oth.”
Mal’akiy (Malachi) 4:5 – “Behold, I will send you Eliyahu the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahuah:”
Reflection: The scribes who were part of the Pharisees believed in the resurrection of the dead knew that it was prophesied that Eliyahu had to come before Ha’Mashiach and thus rejected that Yahusha was Mashiach because they were still looking for Eliyahu to come and prepare the way for Him. In their ruach blindness, they didn’t see Eliyahu had in fact already came again just as the talmidiym couldn’t see it yet even though they had seen Yahuchanon and now Eliyahu.
v12: “And He answered and told them, Eliyahu indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of A’dam, that He must suffer many things, and be set at nought.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 40:3-5 –“The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of Yahuah, make straight in the desert a highway for our Elohiym. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of Yahuah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of Yahuah hath spoken it. ”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 53:3 –“He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.”
Philippiym (Philippians) 2:7-8 – “But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Reflection: Yahusha says that Eliyahu will come first and restore all things but that it is also written that the Son of A’dam must suffer many things and die. Many people overlooked the prophesies of the suffering of Mashiach and what He must go through in order for all things to be accomplished through Him. It is easy for us to see how everything ties together now that it has been partially revealed to us after the fact. For millennia the prophets couldn’t understand how the adulterous tribes of Yashar’el were going to be remarried after their divorce from Yahuah and it all hinged on the life, suffering, death and resurrection of Ha’Mashiach.
v13: “But I say unto you, That kahee Eliyahu has come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.”
Luqas (Luke) 1:13-17 – “But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zakaryahu: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Eliysheva shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Yochanon. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of Yahuah, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Ruach Ha’Qodesh, even from his mother’s womb. And many of the children of Yashar’el shall he turn to the El-Yahuah Elohaykem. And he shall go before him in the ruach and power of Eliyahu, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for Yahuah.”
Ma’asiym (Acts) 7:52 – “Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:”
Reflection: Yahusha plainly tells the three talmidiym that Eliyahu has indeed already come. The Ruach Yahuah that was upon Eliyahu was also upon Yahuchanon. This verse is a little tricky in translation with SHG 2532 but it is clear that some form of Eliyahu came in Yahuchanon the Immerser and that this time Eliyahu had the fate as many of the other prophets, he was killed for his love of Father Yahuah.

Reflection on Marqus 9 Part 1:
In the first thirteen verses of the ninth chapter of the Besorah of Marqus Yahusha tells of His death, suffering and resurrection. He reveals things to three of His talmidiym that will change them forever when He takes them up into the mount and they see Him transfigured before their very eyes in the presence of Mosheh and Eliyahu. Then to top it all off, they hear the voice of Father Yahuah telling them that this is His Beloved Son! Obey Him! They get firsthand experience on what it truly means to Fear Father Yahuah! As quickly as everything happened, it’s all over and they come down the mountain. Yahusha instructs them to not tell anyone and then explains to them what everything they just witnessed means and how He must fulfill things that even Mosheh and Eliyahu didn’t understand in their times when they walked on the face of the earth. Part 1 closes with Yahusha explaining clearly to them that Eliyahu had come – in Yahuchanon the Immerser and just then when they saw him with Mosheh conversing with Yahusha on the mount.
