The Gospel According to Marqus 9 (KJV-YS): Part 3
Overall Introduction:
The ninth chapter of the Besorah of Marqus is a pivotal Brit Ha’dasha text that features Yahusha’s Transfiguration, where He is seen in radiant glory by Kepha, Ya’aqov, and Yochanon. The chapter also includes Yahusha’s confrontation with a demon-possessed boy and his father, His teachings on the importance of humility, the danger of leading others to sin, and His final teaching of the chapter, the greatest in the Kingdom of Elohiym is the servant of all.
The Gospel According to Marqus 9 (KJV-YS): Part 3
Marqus 9: 33-37 – Mashiach Teaches Humility
Insights: After teaching the talmidiym of His death and resurrection they argue among themselves who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Mashiach Yahusha questions them on what they are arguing about and they don’t tell Him but He knows the thoughts of their hearts and He teaches them that the greatest in the kingdom of heaven is like a little child who is eager to learn everything about Yahuah and is the servant of all.
“33. And He came to Capernaum: and being in the house He asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? 34. But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. 35. And He sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. 36. And He took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when He had taken him in His arms, He said unto them, 37. Whosoever shall receive one of such children in My name, receiveth Me: and whosoever shall receive Me, receiveth not Me, but Him that sent Me.”
Cross References Verse 33-37:
v33: “And He came to Capernaum: and being in the house He asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 139:4 – “O Yahuah, Thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, Thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Yahuah, Thou knowest it altogether.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 4:13 – “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.”
Reflection: Yahusha already knows everything about us and He always wants us to be open and truthful with Him when He comes to us.
v34: “But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 13:10 – “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”
Romaiym (Romans) 12:10 – “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”
Galatiym (Galatians) 5:16-17 –“This I say then, Walk in the Ruach, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Ruach, and the Ruach against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”
Philippiym (Philippians) 2:3-7 – “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Mashiach Yahusha: Who, being in the form of Elohiym, thought it not robbery to be equal with Elohiym: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
Reflection: The pride that we all struggle against is always there to rear it’s sinful head up and the talmidiym were no exception. We are at constant war with the flesh and only through Ruach Elohiym can we overcome.
v35: “And He sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.”
Bemidbar (Numbers) 12:3 –“(Now the man Mosheh was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 37:11 – “But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 45:5 – “And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith Yahuah: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 5:5 – “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”
Ya’aqov (James) 4:6-7 – “But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, Elohiym resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to Elohiym. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
1st Yochanon (John) 2:16-17 – “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, sand the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of Elohiym abideth for ever.”
Reflection: Mashiach Yahusha is teaching the talmidiym Who He really is and how they should be like Him as much as possible. Only through His rejection of pride and His meekness was He able to do His work of salvation for the world. Pride is the gateway sin that leads to all other sins with humility and meekness being two of the greatest weapons in our never ending fight with the pride of life that we all must fight until we are no longer in this flesh.
v36: “And He took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when He had taken him in His arms, He said unto them,”
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 11:6 – “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.”
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 54:13 – “And all thy children shall be taught of Yahuah; and great shall be the peace of thy children.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 18:2-4 – “And Yahusha called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Amein I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Reflection: In our walk with Father Yahuah through His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach, we should always have an open mind to learning the things of Yahuah as if we are a little child who is constantly learning new things. When we think we know it all we allow pride to enter into us and we are of no value to Father Yahuah.
v37: “ Whosoever shall receive one of such children in My name, receiveth Me: and whosoever shall receive Me, receiveth not Me, but Him that sent Me.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 119:105 – “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Yochanon (John) 10:30 – “I and My Father are One.”
Yochanon (John) 12:44-46 – “Yahusha cried and said, he that believeth on Me, believeth not on Me, but on Him that sent Me. And he that seeth Me seeth Him that sent Me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on Me should not abide in darkness.”
Reflection: Yahusha teaches that we are to accept those who are seeking Father Yahuah as a child and if we receive them to teach them, then we are actually receiving Him and if we receive Him, we are receiving Father Yahuah. Be very careful of who you turn away that are genuinely seeking Father Yahuah.

Marqus 9: 38-41 – The Body of Mashiach
Insights: Adonai Yahusha teaches the talmidiym that those who are doing the work of Father Yahuah are fellow servants. Just because they did not follow directly with them, they were still doing the work of Father Yahuah.
“38. And Yochanon answered Him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in Thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39. But Yahusha said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in My name, that can lightly speak evil of Me. 40. For he that is not against us is on our part. 41. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in My name, because ye belong to Mashiach, Amein I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.”
Cross References Verse 38-41:
v38: “And Yochanon answered Him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in Thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.”
Bemidbar (Numbers) 11:26-29 –“But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the ruach rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp. And there ran a young man, and told Mosheh, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. And Yahusha the son of Nun, the servant of Mosheh, one of his young men, answered and said, My adonai Mosheh, forbid them. And Mosheh said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would Elohiym that all Yhauah’s people were prophets, and that Yahuah would put His ruach upon them!”
1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 3:3-7 – “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Pa’al; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Pa’al, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as Yahuah gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but Elohiym gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but Elohiym that giveth the increase.”
Reflection: The talmidiym had become jealous over another who was doing miracles in Yahusha’s name but it was not them doing the works and neither is it us who do the works but it is Father Yahuah working through all of us.
v39: “But Yahusha said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in My name, that can lightly speak evil of Me.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 18:10 – “The name of Yahuah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 9:27 – “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
1st Qorintiym (Corinthians) 12:3 – “Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Ruach Elohiym calleth Yahusha accursed: and that no man can say that Yahusha is Yahuah, but by the Ruach Ha’Qodesh.”
Reflection: Mashiach teaches that we are not to forbid others or be jealous of them for doing the work which we are all called to do, whether it is to cast out demons or to serve in another way because we are all in the body of Mashiach and we each have a job to do.
v40: “For he that is not against us is on our part.”
Yahusha (Joshuah) 24:15 – “And if it seem evil unto you to serve Yahuah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the elohiym which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the elohiym of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahuah.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 12:30 – “He that is not with Me is against Me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”
Luqas (Luke) 11:23 – “He that is not with Me is against Me: and he that gathereth not with Me scattereth.”
Reflection: The overall fact is plainly stated to the talmidiym, we are either for Yahuah Elohiym through Mashiach Yahusha or we are against Him. There is no middle ground!
v41: “For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in My name, because ye belong to Mashiach, Amein I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 25:1-3 – “Unto Thee, O Yahuah, do I lift up my soul. O my Elohiym, I trust in Thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 19:17 – “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto Yahuah; and that which he hath given will He pay him again.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 25:40 – “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Amein I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Romayim (Romans) 8:9 – “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Ruach, if so be that Ruach Elohiym dwell in you. Now if any man have not Ruach Mashiach, he is none of His.”
Galatiym (Galatians) 5:24 –“And they that are Mashiach’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
Reflection: The lesson is concluded with the fact that even a glass of water given in the name of Mashiach will be rewarded for their act of kindness and those who do more will receive more. If we see people in need we are to help them no matter what for this is the call of Yahuah.

Marqus 9: 42-50 – The Price of Yielding to Temptation
Insights: Mashiach Yahusha continues the lesson by teaching the consequences of harming those who are young in the faith. He then teaches that if we have a problem with a member of our body going against the will of Father Yahuah then it is better if we lose that part of our flesh so that we can enter into the kingdom of heaven and not be put in hell.
“42. And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in Me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. 43. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of Elohiym with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49. For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”
Cross References Verse 42-50:
v42: “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in Me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 127:3 – “Lo, children are an heritage of Yahuah: and the fruit of the womb is His reward.”
Romayim (Romans) 14:13 – “Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.”
2nd Qorintiym (Corinthians) 6:3 – “Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:”
Reflection: One of the fundamental teachings of Mashiach is to protect and guard those who are not as strong as we are nor have the same blessings that we do. We are to treat everyone as we would want to be treated and children are at the core of this teaching because Father Yahuah loves all of His children, young and old.
v43: “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:”
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 13:6-9 – “If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other elohiym, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the elohiym of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 3:11 –“Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 25:41 – “Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”
Romayim (Romans) 8:13 – “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Ruach do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”
Qolasiym (Colossians) 3:5 – “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
Reflection: The hand in this lesson can be physical but more often it is a representation of what we put our hands to do, the work we accomplish while we are here. Are we working for earthly rewards and physical goods or are we working for Father Yahuah. Are we working with Him or against Him. If we find ourselves working harder for evil or material possessions than we are for Yahuah, we need to cut that out of our life and make our hands work for the Kingdom of Elohiym.
v44: “ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 28:4 – “Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert. Because they regard not the works of Yahuah, nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them, and not build them up.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 66:24 –“And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.”
2nd Tasloniqiym (Thessalonians) 1:9 – “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of Yahuah, and from the glory of His power;”
Reflection: If we chose to work for the world and evil, then we are against Mashiach Yahusha and our eternal payment will be given to use according to our works.
v45: “And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 119:32 – “I will run the way of Thy commandments, when Thou shalt enlarge my heart .”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 1:15-16 – “My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 59:7-8 – “Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 12:1 – “Therefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”
Titus (Titus) 2:12 – “Teaching us that, denying wickedness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and set-apart, in this present world;”
Reflection: Throughout the scriptures we see that our feet either run towards evil or towards Father Yahuah. The directions we go and the race we run will ultimately be either for good or for evil, there is no in between.
v46: “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.“
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 14:11-12 –“Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”
Mishlei (Proverbs) 5:4-5 – “But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.”
Romayim (Romans) 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of Elohiym is eternal life through Yahusha Ha’Mashiach our Adonai.”
Reflection: In our walk here we must always strive to walk and run towards Yahuah or our end will be eternal punishment.
v47: “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of Elohiym with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 3:6 –“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
Iyov (Job) 31:1 – “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 119:37 – “Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken Thou me in Thy way.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 6:22-23 – “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
Philippiym (Philippians) 3:7-8 – “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Mashiach. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Mashiach Yahusha my Adonai: for Whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Mashiach,”
Reflection: The eye is one of the members of the body that leads us astray the most often. We are not to let our eyes portray evil and wickedness in a good way to cause us to sin against Yahuah. At all times we should be vigilant and not let our eyes lead us into temptation and sin.
v48: “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 32:22 – “For a fire is kindled in Mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 28:15 –“Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:”
Reflection: If we follow our eyes to do evil or let them entice us to forsake the commandments of Yahuah then our eternity will not be pleasant where we will rot with the worms eating our flesh and the lake of fire will burn us for eternity.
v49: “For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 19:24-26 –“Then Yahuah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahuah out of heaven; And He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 2:13 –“And every offering of thy oblation shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy Elohiym to be lacking from thy oblation: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.”
Yechezq’el (Ezekiel) 43:24 – “And thou shalt offer them before Yahuah, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for an ascending smoke offering unto Yahuah.”
Reflection: Our life is our offering and sacrifice to Father Yahuah and His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach and just as the offerings in the Torah, we are to be seasoned and appealing to Yahuah and to those we testify to and teach the grace and mercy of Mashiach Yahusha.
v50: “Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 34:14 – “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 5:13 – “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”
Romayim (Romans) 14:17-19 – “For the kingdom of Elohiym is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in Ruach Ha’Qodesh. For he that in these things serveth Mashiach is acceptable to Elohiym, and approved of men. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith tone may edify another.”
2nd Timotheus (Timothy) 4:2-3 –“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”
Ivriym (Hebrews) 12:14 – “Follow peace with all men, and set-apartness, without which no man shall see Yahuah:”
Ya’aqov (James) 1:20 – “For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of Elohiym.”
Reflection: The final lesson in the ninth chapter closes with Yahusha reminding His talmidiym that they are to have the salt in them at all times so they can preach and teach the Word of Elohiym in season and out of season. He teaches that there will come so called teachers who have lost the true salt of the word and we will have to have the salt in us and have peace one with another.

Summary of The Gospel of Marqus Chapter 9 Part 3
In Marqus chapter nine part three, Yahusha teaches His talmidiym that meekness and servitude is how to become the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. He teaches that we are to care for and look out for the children and those who are children in the faith, which we all are called to be, and that when we help those who are weaker than us we are in fact doing it to Him. Mashiach then teaches that there are only two types of people in the world, those who are for and do the work of Father Yahuah, those who are against Father Yahuah and that there is no middle ground. We either work with our souls, bodies and ruach to do the work of Father Yahuah or we will be punished for eternity. He then teaches that if we work with our hands, feet and eyes to do evil then there is eternal punishment for us and that it is better for us to abstain from doing those things with our faculties. The chapter closes with us being reminded that we are the salt of the earth and that if we lose our saltiness then we are good for nothing but to be cast away.
