Praying for Protection from Evil Ruachoth (Spirits)
Greetings to my brothers and sisters in the faith, who love Father Yahuah and His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach!
I pray this blog finds you and your families in the grace and peace of Yahuah and that you have been fruitful in serving others and serving Father Yahuah this week.
Introduction
Praying for protection from evil ruachoth is something that should be included in our prayer life often. The world in which we live is infested and overrun with evil ruachoth, consisting of people, demons and falling angels, and it is of the utmost importance that we know how to guard ourselves and those we love against these evil ruachoth.
The Tanakh mentions evil ruachoth several times but they are mentioned abundantly in the Brit Ha’dasha. Just because they are not mentioned by name in the Tanakh, does not mean it isn’t absolutely completely full of them, and to get the full understanding of what an evil ruach is, let’s get the definition of the the two words:
The word evil in Hebrew is almost always SHW 7451, רַע (ra’) which simply means evil, bad, wicked, harmful or unpleasant.
The word evil in Greek is usually SGW 4190, πονηρός (ponéros), which means evil, bad, wicked or malicious and also SGW 2551, κακολογέω (kakologeó), which means to speak evil of, to revile, to curse, to insult.
The simplest definition of evil is the opposite of good and Mashiach Yahusha teaches that there is only One Who is good and that is Yahuah Elohiym so anything that is not doing the good will of Yahuah is evil.
The word spirit in Hebrew is almost always SHW 7307, רוּחַ (ruwach), which means spirit, wind or breath.
The word that is used for a spirit that has to do with witches, wizards and diviners is SHW 178, אוֹב (owb or modern day orb), which means a spirit (of the dead) that is called from out of the pit of the earth or the disembodied ruach of the nephaliym.
The word spirit in Greek is always SGW 4151, πνεῦμα (pneuma), which also means spirit, wind or breath.
It is my belief that everything in creation contains a ruach because Elohiym created everything and that inanimate objects (idols, graven images, trees, places, stones, etc.) can contain evil ruachoth:
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 4:26 – “I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.”
Maybe this isn’t your belief but everything can be used for either good or evil and those who use them are ruachoth.
As we can see from the definitions above that even if something is not directly called an evil ruach, if someone or something is not doing the good will of Father Yahuah, then it is an evil ruach and this is what we must pray against and ask Yahuah for protection from.
Scriptures about Evil Ruachoth
As stated earlier, their aren’t a lot of verses in the Tanakh that mention evil ruachoth directly but with the understanding that we now have that anything evil has evil ruachoth we can see more references. One of the first times evil ruachoth are mentioned is the commandment to not have anything to do with them or someone who serves or calls upon them:
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 20:26-27 –“And ye shall be set-apart unto Me: for I Yahuah am set-apart, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be Mine. A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.”
**We can see that Yahuah calls us to be set-apart just as He is and to not have anything to do with such people who practice these things. Devariym goes even further to explain the consequences of these practices:
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 18:9-14 – “When thou art come into the land which Yahuah Elohayka giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto Yahuah: and because of these abominations Yahuah Elohayka doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with Yahuah Elohayka. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, Yahuah Elohayka hath not suffered thee so to do.”
**The people of today are just as the people were back then, they love the allure of magic and anything associated with it like wizards and witches and this is where the invitation for the evil ruach to enter into our lives starts at. We live in a society that glamourizes the very thing that Yahuah forbids us to take part in. The christmas season is known by the “magic of the season” and they go as far to say that Jesus is the magic in the season which clearly shows where the “church” is today!!
Can you see how this is abomination to Yahuah and why this world is infested with evil ruachoth as well as the body of Mashiach?
This infestation of the children of Yashar’el started as soon they set out back to Canaan when Ya’aqov left his father-in-law Lavan:
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 31:34 – “Now Rachel had taken the teraphiym (household idols), and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Lavan searched all the tent, but found them not.”
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 35:2 – “Then Ya’aqov said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange elohiym that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:”
**From the beginning, the enemy has wanted to destroy the relationship Yahuah has with His set-apart, peculiar and chosen people by tempting us to sin by following evil ruachoth and the leading ruach of disobedience is our own pride.
Mishlei (Proverbs) 16:17-19 – ” The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty ruach before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble ruach with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
**In order for us to have get protection from evil ruachoth, we must turn from the evil that we do in our lives and remain that way. It is a very dangerous thing to remove an evil ruach from us an then return to the same way of life:
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 12:43-45 – “When the unclean ruach is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other ruachoth more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”
**I pray that this is starting to come into focus for you as you are reading, that the best way to defeat evil ruachoth is not to do anything to them but to stop doing evil ourselves, obey the commandments of Yahuah and ask Him to protect us!
The scriptures in the Tanakh continue to give example after example of the children of Yashar’el, their prophets and kings continually worshipping evil ruachoth, seeking knowledge from them and transgressing the commandments of Yahuah and below are a few examples of this continual rebellion, worship of fallen angels and nephaliym ruachoth:
Devariym (Deuteronomy) 32:16-18 – “They provoked Him to jealousy with strange elohiym, with abominations provoked they Him to anger. They sacrificed unto devils, not to Elohiym; to elohiym whom they knew not, to new elohiym that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten Elohiym that formed thee.“
** After the children of Yashar’el came into the promised land, they continued to rebel against Yahuah during the time of the Judges, from the first king Sha’ul and king Shalomah through the last king of Yahudah:
Shofetiym (Judges) 2:11-13 – “And the children of Yashar’el did evil in the sight of Yahuah, and served Ba’aliym: And they forsook Yahuah Elohai of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim, and followed other elohiym, of the elohiym of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked Yahuah to anger. And they forsook Yahuah, and served Ba’al and Ashtaroth.“
1st Melekiym (Kings) 11:4-6 – “For it came to pass, when Shalomah was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other elohiym: and his heart was not perfect with Yahuah Elohayu, as was the heart of Da’vid his father. For Shalomah went after Ashtoreth the elohiym of the Zidoniym, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammoniym. And Shalomah did evil in the sight of Yahuah, and went not fully after Yahuah, as did Da’vid his father.“
2nd Melekiym (Kings) 24:18-19 – “Zidqiyahu was twenty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Yerushalayim. And his mother’s name was Chamutal, the daughter of Yirmeyahu of Livnah. And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yahuah, according to all that Yahuyaqiym had done.“
**The children of Yashar’el continued to do evil in the sight of Yahuah and provoke Him to anger after they returned from the Babylonian exile until the time of Mashiach Yahusha.
When the sins, rebellion and worshipping of evil ruachoth had gotten to the point where Father Yahuah was going to destroy and scatter what was left of the children of Yashar’el and the Yahudiym, in His love He sent His perfect Son to bear the iniquity of the world so that we may be saved:
Yochanon (John) 3:16-17 – “For Elohiym so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For Elohiym sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.“
** During His ministry of teaching and healing, Yahusha Ha’Mashiach cast out many devils, demons and unclean ruachoth. This teaching is not on how to cast these entities out of a person that has been possessed, but it is a teaching on how to pray for protection from them and how to keep them from having victory over you and your family. Casting devils, demons and unclean ruachoth out of a person is very dangerous and can result in you getting possessed by the entity that you are trying to cast out. If you feel that you are being called to this, you had better be sure that it is coming from Ruach Yahuah Elohiym and not another ruach.
With that said, let’s get back to praying for protection from evil ruachoth. The scriptures give us many examples that we are to seek and rely on Yahuah to guide and protect us and that He alone is our salvation:
Tehilliym (Psalms) 27:1 – “Yahuah is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahuah is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Tehilliym (Psalms) 61:1-3 – “Hear my cry, O Elohiym; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and strong tower from the enemy.”
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 54:17 – “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahuah, and their righteousness is of Me, saith Yahuah.“
Romaiym (Romans) 8:31 – “What shall we then say to these things? If Elohiym be for us, who can be against us?”
Ya’aqov (James) 4:6-8 – “But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, Elohiym resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to Elohiym. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to Elohiym, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
2nd Tasloniqiym (Thessalonians) 3:2-3 – “And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But Yahuah is faithful, Who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.“
1st Kepha (Peter) 3:12-14 – “ For the eyes of Yahuah are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of Yahuah is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?”
**From the above scriptures, we see that if we do the good will of Father Yahuah, He will hear our prayers, protect us and deliver us from evil. Our battle is against our flesh to walk in the narrow way and if we obey His commandments He will hear our prayers and protect us.
Prayers for Protection
Prayers for protection are not just to be done when we are under attack but it should be incorporated into our daily prayers
A Prayer for Protection
The following is an outline of a prayer of protection for yourself:
Dear Heavenly Father Yahuah, my Master, my King, my Everything, my Elohiym.
The Elohiym of Avraham, the Elohiym of Yitschaq, the Elohiym of Ya’aqov, the Elohiym of the children of Yashar’el.
I humbly come before Your throne of exceeding grace and sweet tender mercies,
Only through the mighty name and precious shed blood of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach.
I come Heavenly Father Yahuah first of all to thank You for the greatest gift and blessing ever given, Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach.
I come Father Yahuah to ask that You be a shield of protection around me and guard me from the evil ruachoth around me that are working against me to keep me from doing what You would have me to.
I ask that You remove any ruach that is not of You from me and keep it away.
Father Yahuah I ask that you continue to lead me in the straight and narrow path, so that I can walk as close to your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach as I possibly can so that He can use His rod to correct me and His staff to protect me from the evil ruachoth in this world.
I pray that You continue to give me understanding and revelation from Your Word found in the scriptures to give me discernment on the things that I need to know so that I can guard Your Word within my heart so that no iniquity has dominion over me and the evil ruachoth have no foothold in my life.
If there is something that I need to do or that I need to stop doing, I pray in the mighty name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach You give me the direction and correction to get me out of the bondage of evil.
Continue to use me Master Yahuah and make me obedient to Your commandments because I am your servant and it is my strong desire to do the things which are pleasing in Your sight and a sweet smelling savour in Your nostrils.
Order my steps in Your Word Father Yahuah and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
In the mighty name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach I pray this prayer of protection from the evil ruachoth that work against me and the good I am trying to do.
I thank You for the innumerable blessings You bestow upon me and the protection You provide,
I bless, praise, worship, exalt, magnify and extol Your beautiful set-apart and righteous name Father Yahuah,
and in the might name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach I love You Father Yahuah with all of my heart,
I love You Father Yahuah with all of my soul and I love You Father Yahuah with all of my strength I love You Father Yahuah, I love You Father Yahuah.
Amein, Amein.
The above prayer is just an outline and can be modified to encompass your family and others.
The prayers that I give as examples are just that, examples. The real goal of this and all of the teachings you will find here is to give you simple examples of the prayers but give you the scriptures to be your foundation to allow Ruach Yahuah to guide your words and prayers to your specific situation. Please study the scriptures and do your own research and Father Yahuah will guide you.
Conclusion:
Hopefully you are able to see that all the protection we need to have from evil ruachoth is found in walking obediently to the commandments of Yahuah and He will protect us and our families. If we are not obedient to His Word and commandments, no amount of praying will keep evil ruachoth away from us because we are the evil ruach of disobedience. As with every type of prayer, fasting always strengthens our prayers.
Next week we are going to look at another form of evil ruachoth and how to ask Father Yahuah to deliver us from a reprobate mind before it is too late to return.
Continue to seek Yahuah in everything you do and place your treasure where the evil ruachoth cannot rob you of it.
Chodesh tov, have a blessed Shabbath tomorrow and blow up the shofar!!
May Yahuah continue to bless you and your families to walk in His grace, peace and mercy.
Shalom,
Minister Morrow
