Praying for Healing
Greetings to my brothers and sisters in the faith, who love Father Yahuah and His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach!
I pray this blog finds you and your families in the grace and peace of Yahuah and that you have been fruitful in serving others and serving Father Yahuah.
Please accept my apologies family for not having this out on Friday.
Introduction
Praying for the healing of yourself or the healing of someone else is something that most of us have done or it is something that we will have to do in our sojourn here. The scriptures are full of examples of people praying for healing and of people being healed.
Before we get into the scriptures of praying for healing, let’s define what the word healing means. The Hebrew word for healing is רָפָא (Rapha) which is SHW 7495 and the simple definition is to mend (by stitching), i.e. to cure:-heal:
1. Rapha means to heal, a restoring to normal, an act which Elohiym typically performs (Bere’shiyth 20:17)
2. Thus, appeals to Elohiym for healing are common (Yirmeyahu 17:14)
3. Not only are human diseases healed but bad water is restored or healed (2nd Melekiym 2:22) salt water is healed or made fresh (Yechezq’el 47:8) even pottery is healed or restored (Yirmeyahu 19:11)
4. Nations are healed – such healing not only involves Elohiym’s grace and forgiveness, but also the nations repentance. Divine discipline leads to repentance and healing (Husha 6:1 ; Yirmeyahu 30:17)
5. Foreign cities and powers can know Elohiym’s healing if they repent (Yirmeyahu 51:8-9)
6. False prophets are condemned because they deal only with the symptoms and not with the deep ruach hurts of the people (Yirmeyahu 6:14)
The Greek words used for healing are θεραπεύω ( therapeuó) SGW 2323 , ἰάομαι (Iamomai) SGW 2390 , ἴασις (iasis) SGW 2392 and σῴζω (sozo) SGW 4982 which mean to heal, to cure, restore to health, healing, to save, to rescue, to deliver, to be made whole and to preserve.
As we can see from the definitions in both Hebrew and Greek the words mean basically the same thing: to mend, to heal someone or something, to restore to health, to cure, to save, to rescue, to deliver, to make something whole and to preserve.
Before we go any further, the most important thing we can extract from the above definitions are from number one in the Hebrew definition which states that healing is “an act which Elohiym typically performs”. Yahuah Elohiym doesn’t typically perform the healings we pray for, Yahuah Rophe’ka (Who heals you) is the only One that can heal us. We are just the vessels that His healing power can come through and we must never forget this, that we can do nothing on our own, we are to let Yahuah use us through His Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach and They will allow Ruach Elohiym to work through us.
Scriptures about Praying for Healing
Now that we have gotten a few preliminaries out of the way, let’s look at the scriptures and listen to what they have to say about praying and calling on Yahuah to heal:
Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 20:17 – “ So Avraham prayed unto Elohiym: and Elohiym healed Aviymelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. For Yahuah had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Aviymelech, because of Sarah Avraham’s wife.”
**We can see that Avraham prayed to Elohiym and Yahuah Rophe’ka healed Aviymelech and his house because Avraham prayed to Elohiym and not that Avraham healed Aviymelech.
The next example we have of someone calling to Elohiym to heal is when Mosheh called on Elohiym to heal his sister Miryam. This is in the Torah portion for this week and there is a message hear on a slightly deaper level that we must examine:
Bemidbar (Numbers) 12:32-33 – “And Mosheh cried unto El-Yahuah, saying, Heal her now, O Elohiym, I beseech Thee. And Yahuah said unto Mosheh, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.”
**These verses teach that even though Mosheh was a man that knew Yahuah mouth to mouth, that he had to wait until it was Yahuah’s time to heal. We can be the strongest prayer warrior there is or a novice, healing is only done through Yahuah and it is always on His time. That being said, if Mosheh wouldn’t have been the humble meek man he was with Yahuah’s favor, Miryam could have been leprous for the rest of her life.
From the above references, we see that those who know Yahuah Elohiym on a very deep and personal level, probably more than any of us ever can here, could call on Him and He would heal whom they asked of Him, but what about the rest of us who do not have that mouth mouth with Father Yahuah or have entertained Yahuah at the door of our tent, what do we do?
Bless and praise Yahuah’s Set-Apart and righteous name! He had it all planned out and it was prophesied:
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 53:5 – “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.“
1st Kepha (Peter) 2:24 – “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by Whose stripes ye were healed.“
**Yahusha Ha’Mashiach is our High Priest that has offered the perfect atonement for our transgressions against Yahuah and He is sitting at the right hand of Father Yahuah making intersession for us all the time. Through Mashiach Yahusha, we have access to Yahuah Rophe’ka.
Only through the shed blood, perfect sacrifice and the stripes of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach we are healed both in the flesh and in the ruach. Since we have this healing through Mashiach, how do we access it while we are here:
1st Yochanon (John) 5:13-15 – “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of Elohiym; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of Elohiym. And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him“
Yochanon (John) 14:12-15 – “Amein, amein, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it. If ye love Me, keep My commandments.”
**From the above scriptures, we see that we have to believe on Mashiach Yahusha and love Him, and if we do this, then anything we ask of Him according to Father Yahuah’s will, He will hears us and grant us what we desire of Him.
We get an even greater understanding of this from the second scripture from Yochanon chapter fourteen where Yahusha teaches His talmidiym that anyone who believes on Him will be able to do greater works than the things they have seen Mashiach do because He is sitting at the right hand of Father Yahuah as you read this and is interceding for our petitions.
Once we have the understanding that it is not us who is doing the healing but it is Yahuah Rophe’ka and that there are certain criteria that the person who is praying for the healing must meet we can look at a few examples of people actually praying for healing in the scriptures:
Yirmeyahu (Jerimiah) 17:14 – ” Heal me, O Yahuah, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for Thou art my praise.“
**The prophet Yirmeyahu calls on Yahuah to heal him.
Prayers for healing in the Psalms:
Tehilliym (Psalms) 6:1-2 – “O Yahuah, rebuke me not in Thine anger, neither chasten me in Thy hot displeasure. Have mercy upon me, O Yahuah; for I am weak: O Yahuah, heal me; for my bones are vexed.“
Tehilliym (Psalms) 30:2 – “O Yahuah Elohai, I cried unto Thee, and Thou hast healed me.“
Tehilliym (Psalms) 41:4 – “I said, Yahuah, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.“
Tehilliym (Psalms) 107:19-20 – “Then they cry unto Yahuah in their trouble, and He saveth them out of their distresses. He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.“
**The psalmists cry out to Yahuah in prayer, ask Him to heal them, and confess their transgressions and sins against Him. It is critical that we confess our sins to Yahuah, ask Him for forgiveness and then ask for His Healing in our lives.
Ya’aqov gives us one last example of praying for healing:
Ya’aqov (James) 5:14-16 – ” Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the called-out assembly; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of Yahuah: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and Yahuah shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.“
**Ya’aqov tells us that is there is anyone that is sick, they have to seek healing from the elders of the called-out assembly (church) so that the elders can pray over them, anoint them in the name of Yahuah and the prayer of faith shall save the sick. Notice this faith is not of the person getting healed but of those that have been called to pray. The scriptures then go on to say that if they have committed sins, they shall be forgiven. He then tells us to confess our sins that we have committed against each other to one another. We do not have to confess any sin to any person unless we have committed that sin against that person, we are to confess our sins directly to Mashiach Yahusha and Him alone for forgiveness and we can be healed by prayer because the prayer accomplishes much in the site of Yahuah.
Prayers for Healing
Prayers for healing are not just to be done when we are sick but they should be an integral part of every prayer that we pray, when we get up, when we give thanks for our food and when we lay down to rest, we should always give Yahuah thanks for the health He has giving us.
Prayer for Self Healing
The following is an outline of a prayer for healing for yourself:
Dear Heavenly Father Yahuah, my Master, my King, my Everything, my Elohiym.
The Elohiym of Avraham, the Elohiym of Yitschaq, the Elohiym of Ya’aqov, the Elohiym of the children of Yashar’el.
I humbly come before Your throne of exceeding grace and sweet tender mercies,
Only through the mighty name and precious shed blood of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach.
I come Heavenly Father Yahuah first of all to say thank You for allowing me this great honour and privilege to come before You once again.
I come Father Yahuah to ask that You please heal me of _______________________ and restore my mind body and soul back to you.
I confess my sins of ________________________________________ to you and ask that you please forgive me of them through the mighty name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach and help me so that I can receive the blessings of physical healing you have for me.
I ask Father Yahuah that you give everyone who is involved in my health care the knowledge, understanding and wisdom to do Your will dear Heavenly Father Yahuah in regards to my physical healing.
Father Yahuah, I know that if You do not provide the physical healing that I am praying for that it is not because You are not able to, but because it isn’t Your will at this time and I accept that Father Yahuah because You are my Rock and Your will is perfect and I accept Your will in my life.
In the mighty name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach I pray this prayer,
I thank You for the innumerable blessings You bestow upon me,
I bless, praise, worship, exalt, magnify and extol Your beautiful set-apart and righteous name Father Yahuah,
and in the might name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach I love You Father Yahuah with all of my heart,
I love You Father Yahuah with all of my soul and I love You Father Yahuah with all of my strength I love You Father Yahuah, I love You Father Yahuah.
Amein, Amein.
The above prayer is just an outline and can be used for both healing for the flesh and for the ruach.
Remember, Father Yahuah wants us to have a personal relationship with Him and His Son Mashiach Yahusha, so put the prayers into your own words and speak them as you would to the One who loves you more than anyone every will
Prayer for the Healing of Someone Else
Praying for the healing of someone else is basically the same as praying for ourselves except with a few minor changes:
Dear Heavenly Father Yahuah, our Master, our King, our Everything, our One and only Elohiym.
The Elohiym of Avraham, the Elohiym of Yitschaq, the Elohiym of Ya’aqov, the Elohiym of the children of Yashar’el.
We humbly come before Your throne of exceeding grace and sweet tender mercies,
Only through the mighty name and precious shed blood of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach.
We come Heavenly Father Yahuah first of all to say thank You for allowing us this great honour and privilege to come before You once again.
We come Father Yahuah to ask that You please heal “person’s name” of _______________________ and give them Your peace and comfort Father Yahuah.
I ask Father Yahuah that you give the doctors, nurses and everyone else who is involved in “person’s name” health care the knowledge, understanding and wisdom to do Your will dear Heavenly Father Yahuah in regards to the healing You are currently performing as I speak.
Father Yahuah I ask that you give __________ an appetite so they can eat to regain physical strength, I pray that you give them hunger for Your set-apart and righteous word Father Yahuah so that you can give them nourishment for their soul.
Father Yahuah I ask that you give the family and loved ones of __________________ the strength to continue to be here for them and care for them while they are sick.
Father Yahuah, we know that if You do not provide the physical healing that we are praying for that it is not because You are not able to, but because it isn’t Your will at this time and we accept that Father Yahuah because You are our Rock and Your will is perfect and we accept Your will our lives.
In the mighty name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach we pray this prayer,
We thank You for the innumerable blessings You bestow upon us Father Yahuah,
We bless, praise, worship, exalt, magnify and extol Your beautiful set-apart and righteous name Father Yahuah,
and in the might name of Your Son Yahusha Ha’Mashiach we love You Father Yahuah with all of our heart,
we love You Father Yahuah with all of our soul and I love You Father Yahuah with all of our strength we love You Father Yahuah, we love You Father Yahuah.
Amein, Amein.
Once you have finished praying for the sick person and their family, at your discretion, you can tell them about the redemptive power of confessing our sins and transgressions to Father Yahuah and asking for forgiveness through His Son Mashiach Yahusha.
Conclusion:
When we are praying for anything from Yahuah, we must remember that everything is according to His perfect will and that we cannot do anything on our own but through Yahusha Ha’Mashiach we can do all things.
Next week we are going to look at fasting as a compliment to our prayer life with Father Yahuah. Fasting is very helpful when praying for anything, especially for healing and the last subject we are going to cover on praying for now, praying for victory over the demonic ruach that we have to deal with everyday and fasting is extremely important for this type of praying.
I pray that these blogs on prayer life are helping you in your sojourn here.
Have a blessed start to your week and I pray that Yahuah blesses you and your family with health, peace and growth in His Word this week
Shalom,
Minister Morrow
